Position:

Prepare and serve nutritious meals to youth in a residential setting and provide light cleaning support in designated common areas. Perform all duties using a strengths-based, youth-focused approach and in compliance with health department, Child Nutrition Program, food safety, sanitation, and agency guidelines. A Typical Day as a

Residential Counselor:

Promptly communicate food service needs, safety concerns, inventory updates, and required youth meal accommodations to the Food Service Supervisor. Prepare dinners and occasional breakfasts in a respectful, youth-focused manner. Set up and clean up meal areas before and after meals. Help serve meals while supporting a strength-based mealtime environment. Model respectful communication and encourage healthy food choices with youth. Follow approved menus, portion sizes, and meal components to meet Child Nutrition Program guidelines. Record food temperatures and monitor hot and cold holding requirements. Report food safety concerns promptly. Maintain kitchen sanitation through handwashing, safe food handling, cross-contamination prevention, and routine cleaning. Receive, store, label, date, rotate, and dispose of food according to food safety procedures. Order correct food quantities when the Food Service Supervisor is absent. Maintain assigned records, including temperature logs, production records, substitutions, inventory notes, and sanitation documentation. Follow documented directions for special diets, allergies, and meal modifications. Complete required food safety, sanitation, nutrition program, and agency training. Perform light cleaning in designated common hallways, staff office areas, public restrooms, and stairwells, including wiping fixtures and restocking supplies. Perform other assigned duties related to food service or light cleaning support in designated facility areas.
