Job Description

Part-Time Household & Meal Prep Assistant Private Household - 4.2 Westfield, IN Job Details Part-time $25 - $30 an hour 20 hours ago Benefits Flexible schedule Qualifications Pre-cooking preparation Driver's License Food preparation In-home experience Full Job Description A little about the role I'm looking for a dependable, organized, and proactive person to become a regular part of our household routine. This is a part-time position for approximately 6-8 hours per week , focused on helping keep our home running smoothly through laundry, linens, grocery shopping, and most importantly meal preparation for two people: myself and my four-year-old. I'm not looking for someone to simply come in and complete a checklist. I'm looking for someone who can look around, notice what needs to be done, use good judgment, and take initiative. A big part of this role will be meal preparation. I will provide ideas for meals we already enjoy, but I'd love to find someone who is comfortable trying new recipes, working with what's available, and bringing their own ideas to the table. We're open to variety and enjoy trying different foods. The goal is to make healthy, practical meals that are easy for me to finish, reheat, or serve during a busy week. For example, if there is chicken, rice, and vegetables in the refrigerator, I would love someone who naturally thinks, "I can turn that into a simple chicken-and-vegetable bowl," rather than waiting for me to provide step-by-step instructions. What you'll be doing Meal Preparation We're looking for meals that are: Nutritious and reasonably balanced Family-friendly and appropriate for a young child Easy to reheat Easy to assemble or finish during the week Practical for busy weeknights Appropriate for making several servings at once Not overly complicated or dependent on hard-to-find ingredients Examples might include: Crockpot or slow-cooker "dump" meals Soups and stews Chicken or turkey dishes Pasta or pasta bakes Casseroles Marinated/prepared proteins and vegetables Sheet-pan meals Stir-fry components Homemade meatballs Pulled chicken or pork Grain/rice bowls Breakfast items or snacks that can be prepared ahead You do not need to be a professional chef. I'm looking for someone who is a confident home cook, comfortable following recipes, and ideally comfortable improvising when there is food available that needs to be used. I'll provide some of our favorite meals and ideas to get started, but I'd love for you to eventually become comfortable suggesting meals based on what we have on hand. Grocery Shopping & Restocking You'll occasionally make light grocery trips to: Restock everyday essentials Pick up ingredients needed for planned meals Purchase fresh produce, proteins, dairy, pantry items, etc. Notice when commonly used items are running low Help prevent the household from running out of basic ingredients Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required. Laundry & Linens Wash, dry, fold, and put away laundry Wash and replace linens as needed Keep laundry areas reasonably organized Notice when laundry or linens need attention rather than waiting to be asked I'm looking for someone who takes pride in doing these things neatly and efficiently. What this job is NOT There is: No childcare No babysitting No responsibility for caring for my child No deep cleaning No scrubbing bathrooms as a regular duty No major house-cleaning projects My four-year-old may be present in the home at times, but childcare is not part of the job. The focus is on making our household run more smoothly through meal preparation, laundry, linens, groceries, and organization. The type of person I'm looking for The right person will be someone who: Is proactive. You notice what needs to be done instead of waiting for a detailed list every time. Has good judgment. You can look at the groceries available and figure out what can reasonably be made with them. Is organized. You can keep track of groceries, laundry, meal prep, leftovers, and what needs to happen next. Enjoys cooking. You don't need culinary training, but you should genuinely enjoy preparing food and be comfortable trying new recipes. Is comfortable with variety. We're open to different cuisines and new meals. You don't have to cook the same five meals every week. Understands meal prep. You understand that the best meal isn't necessarily one that is ready to eat immediately. Sometimes the best preparation is chopping vegetables, marinating chicken, preparing a sauce, assembling a crockpot meal, or cooking something that reheats well. Can cook for a young child. You should be comfortable preparing meals that are nutritious and appealing to a four-year-old without making every meal "kid food." Is dependable. Showing up consistently and communicating when something changes is extremely important. Respects privacy. You'll be working inside our home, so trustworthiness, discretion, and respect for our family's privacy are essential. Works independently. Once you understand our preferences, I want you to be able to work without constant direction. Pays attention to details. You notice that we're almost out of milk, that the sheets need changing, or that the chicken should be used before it expires. Experience that would be helpful Experience in any of the following is a plus: Household assistant Personal assistant Meal preparation Family meal planning Private-home housekeeping Professional cooking Nanny/household management Senior-care meal preparation Restaurant or food-service work Managing your own household However, personality, judgment, reliability, and cooking ability are more important to me than having a specific job title on your résumé. Schedule Approximately 6-8 hours per week . I'm flexible about how those hours are structured and would prefer to establish a consistent weekly schedule. Depending on what works best, the hours could be completed in one longer visit or divided into two shorter visits. Compensation $25-$30/hour depending on experience and fit. This is intended to be an ongoing position for someone who would enjoy becoming a trusted and consistent part of our household routine. To apply Please send an email to and include the following: A brief introduction about yourself Your relevant household, cooking, or meal-preparation experience Your general availability Your hourly rate expectation Confirmation that you have reliable transportation Two references, preferably from previous employers or clients A brief example of a meal you enjoy making I'd especially love to hear about someone who enjoys cooking and can tell me what they might make with a few basic ingredients already in the refrigerator. I'm looking forward to finding someone who can take some of the mental load of running a household off my plate and help make our weeks a little easier.
