Job Description - Kitchen Staff

JOB SUMMARY

The Kitchen Staff position within the Chase County Detention Center is a non-exempt, full-time position under FLSA, which reports to the Kitchen Supervisor. This position is responsible for assisting in various kitchen operations including food preparation, serving, and cleaning in accordance with Chase County policies, State of Kansas statutes, and other regulations pertaining to the position.

PRIMARY DUTIES

Preparation and serving meals to inmates and staff. No inmate contact. Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas. Follow food safety and hygiene standards at all times. Receive and store food supplies and assist with inventory rotation. Support the Kitchen Supervisor in daily kitchen operations.

INTERMITTENT DUTIES

Assist in preparing special diet meals as directed. Report any maintenance issues or safety concerns to the Kitchen Supervisor. Participate in routine deep cleaning of kitchen areas and equipment.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE:

No prior experience required.

EDUCATION

High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS

Must maintain a valid Kansas Driver's License with a good driving history.

CRIMINAL HISTORY

Must not have been convicted of a crime that would constitute a felony under the laws of this state.

KNOWLEDGE

Ability to receive, interpret, and follow verbal and written instructions. English proficiency required; knowledge of a second language is helpful.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Basic understanding of food preparation and sanitation procedures.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Ability to identify and report issues to the Kitchen Supervisor.

SUPERVISION

Works under the direct supervision of the Kitchen Supervisor.

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Responsible for the proper use and care of kitchen equipment and supplies.

PERSONAL RELATIONS

Must be able to work cooperatively with staff and inmates in a professional and respectful manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed indoors in a secure detention facility. Exposure to hot surfaces, sharp tools, and cleaning chemicals. Moderate stress levels with repetitive tasks and time-sensitive duties.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry items up to 25 pounds. Occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds. Must have adequate vision and hearing to perform job duties safely.
