This is a high-volume and fast-paced cafe & bakery with light fare. Usually, all new hires are trained and expected to have experience on a variety of positions, including kitchen, barista, expo, register, and dishwashing. All new workers are on a path toward worker-ownership (equal share and governance in the cooperative) after a year of working with us and may expand from part-time into full-time hours as more shifts open up. This position is for around 28 hours per week. Opening shifts are typically from 6:30am-1pm and closing shifts are from 10:30am-4pm. Dishwashing shifts are typically from 9am-5pm. Duties Regularly on-time to shifts with little to no call-outs. Application of techincal knowledge in coffee, food service, customer service, and other skills needed for the job. Listening to others, incorporating constructive feedback, and resolving interpersonal conflict in a professional manner. Participation in workplace governance structures. Maintaining cleanliness in all areas, inside and outside, of the cafe. Manage time effectively to ensure prompt service during peak hours. Collaborate with other staff to ensure timely food & drink delivery, and address any customer inquiries or concerns. Adhere to health and safety regulations within the food industry. Requirements Previous experience in a high-volume cafe as a barista, line cook, expo, or similar environment is required. Strong customer service skills with a focus on creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Basic knowledge of retail math for handling transactions and drawer counts accurately. Familiarity with food preparation techniques. Familiarity with specialty coffee and espresso drink builds. Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively and arrive to shifts on time regularly. Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with colleagues. A positive attitude and willingness to learn are essential for success in this role. Passion for workplace democracy and building a radical worker-cooperative. Compensation & Benefits Wages are around $19-22 per hour after tips. MD sick time applies. Free shift meals and paid breaks. Mutual aid fund is offered.
