The primary responsibility of this position is exactly what the title says: making pasta! You'll spend the majority of your time producing the fresh, handmade pasta we sell in our market and use throughout our cooking classes and events. Because we're a small, hands-on team, this position will also be cross-trained in other areas of The Local Epicurean. Depending on the day and our needs, you may help open or close the retail store, steward a cooking class, assist with food prep, or bartend an event. Pasta production, however, will be the main focus of your role. What You'll Do Pasta Production - Your Primary Role Make fresh pasta according to our recipes and production standards Roll, cut, shape, fill, portion, package, label and merchandise pasta Prepare ingredients for pasta production Follow production schedules and help maintain appropriate inventory levels Maintain consistency and quality from batch to batch Keep the pasta production area clean, organized, and stocked Assist with other food production and prep when needed Additional Cross-Trained Responsibilities Retail Help open and/or close our gourmet market Assist customers and operate the POS system Restock, merchandise, and maintain the retail area Steward / Cooking Class Support Wash dishes, cookware, utensils, and class equipment Help clean and reset the kitchen during and after cooking classes and events Assist with general kitchen closing responsibilities Bartending Prepare beer, wine, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages during classes and events Provide friendly and attentive guest service Help set up, stock, and close the bar Follow all applicable alcohol-service and safety requirements Who We're Looking For Previous pasta-making experience is wonderful, but it is not required. We can teach our pasta-making process to the right person. More importantly, we're looking for someone who is: Dependable and punctual Detail-oriented and consistent Comfortable with repetitive, hands-on food production Able to follow recipes, procedures, and production standards Comfortable working independently once trained Willing to jump in and help the team when needed Friendly and professional with customers and guests Clean and organized in their work Comfortable being on their feet and performing the physical tasks associated with kitchen work Available for a combination of daytime, evening, and weekend shifts Kitchen, food-production, restaurant, retail, or bartending experience is helpful, but a strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn are most important. About The Local Epicurean The Local Epicurean is a hands-on cooking school, gourmet market, pasta producer, and bar in East Lansing. We make our pasta in-house and host cooking classes, private events, corporate events, wine tastings, and other culinary experiences. This is a great position for someone who enjoys making things with their hands and takes pride in producing a beautiful, consistent product. While you'll become familiar with several parts of our business, pasta making will be the heart of your job. We expect this position to average approximately 20-30 hours per week and are looking for someone to start as soon as possible.
Pay:
$14.00 - $18.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 - 30.0 per week
