Full-Time Position Summary The Kitchen/Food Service Coordinator is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals and snacks for the children and staff at the Academy. This position prepares breakfast, lunch, and afternoon meals/snacks according to the Academy's menu and ensures that all food is prepared, stored, and served in a safe, sanitary, and timely manner. The Kitchen/Food Service Coordinator plays an important role in maintaining a clean and organized kitchen while supporting the health, safety, and nutritional needs of the children in our care. Essential Responsibilities Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and afternoon meals/snacks according to the approved menu and daily schedule. Follow established recipes, portion sizes, and meal requirements. Prepare meals that are appropriate for young children and meet applicable childcare nutrition requirements. Carefully follow all food allergy, dietary restriction, and special meal requirements provided by the Center. Maintain accurate awareness of children who have food allergies or dietary restrictions. Ensure food is prepared and served at appropriate temperatures. Properly label, date, store, and rotate food and ingredients. Follow proper food-handling, sanitation, and handwashing procedures at all times. Keep kitchen, appliances, counters, sinks, floors, storage areas, and food preparation areas clean and sanitary. Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, cookware, and food preparation equipment. Monitor food and kitchen supplies and notify the Director when items need to be ordered. Assist with receiving and properly storing food deliveries. Check food expiration dates and maintain proper food rotation. Minimize food waste while maintaining appropriate portions and food quality. Maintain required kitchen and food service records. Follow Academy policies and procedures as well as applicable childcare licensing and health regulations. Maintain a safe and secure kitchen environment, keeping hazardous items and cleaning supplies properly stored and inaccessible to children. Communicate professionally with the Center Director and teaching staff regarding meals, substitutions, allergies, or other food-related concerns. Assist with special events, classroom celebrations, or other food-service needs as requested. Complete other kitchen or food-service duties assigned by the Center Director. Daily Schedule Expectations The Kitchen/Food Service Coordinator typically works 7:00 AM-2:00 PM .
The daily schedule generally includes:
7:00 AM
  • 8:00 AM Prepare and serve breakfast Begin lunch preparation Complete kitchen preparation and sanitation 8:00 AM
  • 11:00 AM Prepare lunch Complete food preparation and cooking Prepare any required special/allergy meals Clean and sanitize as needed 11:00 AM
  • 12:30 PM Serve lunch Monitor food temperatures and portions Complete lunch cleanup 12:30 PM
  • 2:00 PM Prepare afternoon snack/meal as needed Complete dishes and kitchen cleaning Organize and restock kitchen Check inventory and prepare for the following day Meal times and daily responsibilities may vary based on the Academy's schedule and enrollment needs.
Qualifications Previous experience in food preparation, childcare food service, restaurant service, school food service, or a similar position preferred. Experience preparing meals for young children is a plus. Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices. Ability to follow recipes, menus, and written instructions. Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks within a scheduled timeframe. Must be dependable, punctual, organized, and able to maintain a clean work environment. Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with the Academy team. Must be willing to complete all required training and meet applicable childcare and food-service requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and lift. Ability to lift and carry food supplies and kitchen equipment as required. Ability to work safely around hot surfaces, ovens, cooking equipment, and cleaning products. Ability to maintain a clean and sanitary work environment throughout the workday.
