$17.50 to $18.50/Hr Description Northeast Youth Center is hiring a Kitchen Assistant in Spokane, WA Summary The Spokane Northeast Youth Center (NEYC) offers a variety of low-cost activities, before and after school care, early learning programs, and special events. NEYC's mission is to create a culturally enriching environment that promotes responsible social interactions, respect, and acceptance, ensuring that every young person feels valued and included. Under the direction of the Kitchen Lead, the Kitchen Assistant will prepare healthy and nutritious meals for the children attending NEYC. This position is responsible for preparing food multiple times a day, Monday through Friday. The Kitchen Assistant will help with all kitchen responsibilities, including food preparation, delivering meals to classrooms, monitoring food storage, maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, and collaborating with staff on menu planning. Duties The following duties are typical for this position: Prepare and cook food items according to recipes and maintain quality standards. Deliver meals to classrooms as assigned. Assist with menu planning and development. Ensure that all food preparation areas are clean and sanitized. Help monitor food and supply stock and let the Kitchen Lead know when items are needed. Collaborate with staff to suggest menu options for children. Follow safety and sanitation procedures diligently. Encourage positive interactions with children. Work collaboratively as part of a team. Maintain compliance with WAC (Washington Administrative Code) requirements. Participate in and meet personal training requirements mandated by DCYF (Department of Children, Youth, and Families). Perform other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Lead, Food Program Manager, or Executive Director. Requirements Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Multilingual applicants are encouraged to apply. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with children. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Must have a basic understanding of food safety regulations and sanitation standards. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with children.
Pre-employment requirements:
Proof of employment eligibility, proof of Tuberculin skin (TB) test, copy of immunization record that includes Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) vaccination and COVID vaccination or exception, valid Food Handler's card. Ability to pass background checks, including criminal history, child abuse - including Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), and motor vehicle records. Must obtain First Aid/CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens certification within two (2) weeks of hire and complete all other job-specific required training as instructed. Nice To Haves Previous experience in a kitchen environment, such as working as a line cook or in a similar position. In-depth knowledge/training of Washington Administrative Code (WAC) for childcare facilities. Benefits Full-time employees (those work regularly work over 35 hours weekly) are eligible for benefits above those required by federal, state, or local regulations. Health Care Coverage - After 90 days of continuous employment, full-time employees qualify for health care coverage. Paid Time Off (PTO) - Full-time employees are granted two weeks of Paid Time Off (PTO) after 90 days of continuous employment. Ongoing annual PTO accrual is based on the employee's length of service, with the following schedule applied on each anniversary date of employment: Health Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Paid Leave Sick Leave Two weeks (80 hours) per year applied on the first and second anniversary of employment Three weeks (120 hours) per year applied on the third and fourth anniversary of employment Four weeks (160 hours) per year applied on the fifth anniversary of employment and annually thereafter
