A Kitchen Staff assists with food preparation as directed by cooks, food supervisors or chefs. Cleans kitchen work areas and dishes. Prepares ingredients for dishes to be cooked, prepares beverages, and stocks salad bars or buffet tables.

Job Description
Essential Job Functions Include:
- Assist Nutrition Supervisor in preparation and cooking for the nutrition programs
- Ability to assist with all prep work including but not limited to clean, peel and slice foods
- Scullery duties, including cleaning work areas, equipment, utensils, pans, and dishes and the disposal of trash
- Clean and sanitize kitchen and equipment, sweep and mop floors, wash mats
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment; including ovens, broilers, grills, slicers, grinders, mixers, microwave oven and dishwasher
- Set up serving line daily, count trays and report number to Nutrition Supervisor
- Assist in care and maintenance of supplies and equipment
- Maintain the appearance of the dining room and kitchen areas
- Responsible for all set up and clean up for monthly carry-in dinners
- Shall be aware of and work towards all cost control measures
- Shall possess an awareness of the importance of good grooming and sanitary requirements of persons connected with the meal preparation and service
- Shall be aware of and comply with State Health Code Regulations
- Occasionally assist other departments within the Senior Center as needed
- Adhere to policies and procedures on confidentiality in and out of the Senior Center
- Provide excellent customer service and customer satisfaction
- Demonstrate proper lifting techniques
- Maintain a positive, "can do" attitude
- Promote and demonstrate a positive work environment

Physical Demands:
- Stoop, reach for and lift kitchen equipment
- May be required to lift, push, pull, move equipment, supplies, etc., more than 50 lbs.
- Sit, stand, walk, and move intermittently during working hours
Environmental Demands:
- Work in close quarters for long periods of time
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals
- Lifting heavy pots, pans, and kettles
- Operating electrical appliances
- Working near hot ovens and grills
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must possess high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be a citizen of the United States of America or eligible to work in the United States of America
- Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing in the English language
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal standards and regulations to maintain health, sanitation, and safety in kitchen and dining areas
- Experience in a large quantity food preparation operation, helpful, but not required
- Ability to interpret and follow instructions, recipes, equipment operation manuals, work orders, safety rules, and procedures
- Ability to deal with frequent interruptions in a professional manner
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
