Job Summary As a member of our Ski Patrol / First Aid team you'll be a part of a dedicated group of individuals dedicated to on mountain safety of all guests and providing first aid care and attention to guest needing assistance on the mountain and/or around the lodge facility Job Duties and Responsibilities This job description is intended as a summary of the primary responsibilities of and the qualifications for the position. Commitment to excellent services and guest satisfaction Skiing to perform opening and closing procedures on the mountain daily Communication with other departments Maintain safe and easy access with the base patrol and ski patrol duty stations Become proficient with ropes and rope rescue skills Maintain clean, safe, and professional workstations Training records kept up and turned into the Ski Patrol Director when completed Maintain any appropriate records as set forth by company policy and procedures Recognize and correct any safety hazards within the ski patrol department Shoveling snow, sometimes deep, heavy wet snow weighing more than 50 pounds per shovel full Heavy and awkward lifting of items up to 50 pounds plus Provide timely and accurate information concerning weather conditions, grooming or slope conditions and related information to help guest maximize their skiing experience Communicate problems to superiors, while showing initiative in handling routine matters Complete check off sheets and complete scenarios to full fill requirements for Ski Patrol Skills and Competencies Positive attitude and enthusiasm Ability to read and to write legibly and to use good composition skills to complete records and report forms Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certificate preferred. Wilderness Emergency Care (WEC) accepted with patient contact experience CPR certification required Advanced skiing ability. The ability to safely and skillfully ski and transport a person in a toboggan down an expert ski trail in an expeditious manner within the ski area boundaries Ability to learn and be knowledgeable in the needs of the equipment and standard procedure for its care and safe operation Safe operation of a snowmobile in a variety of terrain and snow conditions Must be well groomed and present a good public image Good physical condition as this position requires skiing, hiking, shoveling, lifting, and carrying Willingness to work during extreme weather conditions Safety orientated Must be able to pass federal and state back ground checks for the use and handling of explosives for avalanche mitigation Must possess the desire to learn and be involved with a class A avalanche area and it's mitigation practices Requires the skills of a host Work Schedules Weather, snow conditions and the number of guests play a large role in the work scheduling of Bear Valley employees. When conditions are normal, you may be expected to work 40 up to 48 hours per week, including weekends and holidays. During busy periods - especially the holiday periods in December and the months of January and February - you may be expected to work six (6) days a week. You must arrange for transportation to work so that you arrive at your designated workstation at the scheduled time. Keep in mind that you will often be required to drive on hilly, snowpacked, and icy road. Working Conditions At any time during the ski season, Bear Valley employees are often required to perform their tasks in high winds, heavy snowfalls, low visibility, rain, and extremely cold or warm temperatures. Uniforms A professional appearance at Bear Valley is required. Please wear your name tag and uniform at all times during your scheduled shift. We will provide most of the uniform for you to do your job. This uniform is for work hours ONLY, no exceptions. You will be required to provide some items as part of your job. The quality, color, and style of the items must be approved by your manager prior to being worn to work. All hats worn must have the Bear Valley logo while on shift.
