Job Description
Part-Time Mentor / Activity Buddy for 11-Year-Old — $50/Hour Laguna Beach / South Orange County $50/hour | 2-hour sessions | 2-3 days per week We're looking for a fun, active, dependable mentor/buddy for our 11-year-old son, Thomas. Thomas is high-functioning autistic with ADHD. He is bright, funny, active, and loves video games. We're looking for someone he can connect with who can encourage him to get outside, exercise, play sports, and enjoy the beach. This is not a therapy position. Think of it more as being a responsible older mentor/buddy who gets him out of the house, moving, and having fun. The Schedule 2 hours per session, 2-3 times per week $50/hour ($100 per session) We're hoping to find someone who can be consistent and develop a longer-term relationship with Thomas. What You Might Do Go to the beach, swim or bodyboard Shoot hoops, play soccer, throw a football, or try other sports Go for walks, hikes, or bike rides Help Thomas get comfortable trying new activities Reinforce good beach and ocean safety Play video games together as a reward after the day's exercise/activity is completed Who Would Be a Great Fit Someone who is: Fun, active, patient, and dependable A strong swimmer and very comfortable around the ocean Experienced as an ocean lifeguard or Junior Guard instructor — a big plus Into sports and outdoor activities Someone who actually enjoys and knows video games Comfortable with autism/ADHD or interested in learning CPR/First Aid certified or willing to become certified Current or former ocean lifeguards, Junior Guard instructors, college athletes, coaches, camp counselors, and college students studying kinesiology, psychology, education, OT/PT, or a related field are encouraged to apply. Thomas may take a little time to warm up to someone new, so we're looking for someone relaxed and patient who is interested in building a genuine connection with him. Interested?
