Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW
Children's Ministry Attendants at Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church are responsible for providing dependable, safe, secure, and nurturing care to the children while at the church in a clean environment. This position is part-time on Sunday mornings about 2 hours.EXPECTATIONS
All staff members of Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church are expected to live a life that is an example of Christian character for the greater glory of God and the greater good of His people. The purpose of this position is to support the mission of the church " to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world." This requires excellent interpersonal skills as you represent the congregation to the greater community and a spirit of cooperative teamwork as you interact with a diverse team of staff and volunteers. Staff members are expected to have personal integrity and the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with fellow staff, church members, guests, vendors, and the general public.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises children when in the facility as well as during outdoor playtime and field trips.
- Provides age-appropriate care which includes feeding, changing diapers, escorting to the bathroom, maintaining a safe environment, putting children down for naps, holding or siting with and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories, play and prayer. Universal precautions should always be used when changing diapers or other times when contact with body fluids is possible.
- Supervises and assists children during meals and snacks.
- Ensures all children are secured with responsible adult at end of Children's programming time.
- Notifies parent and programming lead in the event of an emergency.
- Straightens children's ministry area and cleans all toys/beds before leaving.
- Pays attention to each child's emotional state and development and reports any concerns to the Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and Children's Minister.
- Abides by Safe Sanctuaries protocols and all other safety guidelines of the church.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Ministries and Operations to assist with Children's ministry programs and activities.
COMPETENCIES
- Demonstrates a polite, friendly and courteous attitude to all children, parents and volunteers.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in caring for children between the ages of 0 to 4 with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities required.
TRAINING
- Early childhood education training preferred.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain certification for CPR for infants and children.
SAFETY/SANITATION/EQUIPMENT
- Follow established safety precautions in performance of all duties.
- Report all safety violations to supervisor or Church Administrator.
- Before leaving for breaks or at the end of the day, store all equipment and supplies and straighten work area.
- Report any communicable or infectious diseases that you contract to your supervisor immediately.
- Use only the equipment you have been trained to use; operate all equipment in a safe manner and report any defective equipment to your supervisor.
PHYSICAL & SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
(WITHOR WITHOUT THE AID OF MECHANICAL DEVICES
):- Must be able to work sitting, standing, walking, lifting, stooping, bending, crouching and kneeling.
- Must be able to read, speak, and write the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to lift, push, and move a minimum of 35 pounds.
