To support our over 25 parks and facilities we have a dedicated and diverse workforce of over 500 staff seasonally. Be a part of a supportive team of peers while staying active and learning new skills. Our Lifeguards help maintain an environment of safety in our Aquatic facilities. We provide paid training and the opportunity to continue lifeguarding and/or swim instructor roles indoors during the year. Want to be a Lifeguard? If hired, we'll pay for your training and certification as a Red Cross Lifeguard.
We are looking for:
School Year Lifeguards and Swim Instructors to support our indoor pools during the year.
Pay rate:
Starting at $20.00

Sachs Recreation Center (SRC) Monday
  • Thursday:
    4:00pm
  • 5:00pm; 5:30pm
  • 7:30pm
Saturdays:
9:00am
  • 1:00pm Deerfield High School (DHS) Monday
  • Friday 5:00pm-7:00pm & 7:00pm-9:00pm
Saturdays:
9:00am
  • 1:00pm, Training 2:00pm-4:00pm Hours include multiple shifts and may not be for the entire listed time.

Essential Functions Include:
Ability to focus and maintain the 30 second standard. Performs life-saving techniques including in-pool rescues, CPR, AED, and Oxygen administration and first aid. Respond to emergencies. Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe activities and enforces facility rules. Cleans the pool deck area and locker rooms. Installs or removes lane lines and starting blocks. Must have the ability to perform the physical and cognitive skills necessary to achieve and maintain a lifeguard and CPR certification as prescribed by the agency. Responds to concerns and requests from members, residents and guests with a sense of urgency and take the necessary corrective action including follow up. Attends all appropriate staff meetings and required in-service trainings. Customer Service oriented. Teaches participants of all ages and swimming ability for camp lessons, group lessons and private lessons. Instruct proper stroke technique and safety skills. Assists with general maintenance and cleanliness of the pool, pool area, and locker rooms. Have attendance rosters, equipment and other teaching materials ready prior to the beginning of each class. Maintain accurate attendance and progress reports for all students. Maintain positive environment in the class by communicating progress with each swimmer's parent. Complete updated and accurate skill sheets on each swimmer. Required to attend weekly in-service meetings. Report any problems to pool manager and/or lesson coordinators immediately. Requirements Must be 15 years of age or older (work permit required for 15-year-olds). Enjoys having fun! Like working with children. Able to work in a team environment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and be on your feet for long periods of time. Ability to swim. Pass Starfish certification during paid training. Must demonstrate vision capabilities of 20/30 corrected or best corrected. If needed, must always wear corrective eye wear to maintain 20/30 or better vision while lifeguarding. Must have the ability to remain calm under stress levels associated with constant public contact. We abide by the IL Park District Code in our hiring practices.

$20
  • $22.
50, starting pay at the base of range.
