Job Description

GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Aquatics Coordinator/Director, the slide monitor will prevent accidents before they occur to promote the general safety of slide participants and to protect life at all times.
MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Education/Experience Requirements:
Minimum age of 16
Physical/Mental Requirements:
Must be able to frequently perform the following physical activities; climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, lift and carry up to 35 pounds, and communicate verballyMust be able to perform work both indoors and out and be exposed to prevalent weather conditionsMust be able to visually see all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibilityMust be able to adequately hear noises and distinguish distress signalsMust possess ability to remain alert and maintain concentration for long periods of time to ensure safety of participantsMust possess ability to make independent and sound decisions in a rapidly changing environmentMust be able to show initiative in the absence of supervisionMust be able to relate to and work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent mannerMust maintain a neat and professional appearance
Job Requirements:
Commitment to the YMCA mission, vision and valuesMust attend New Employee Orientation within 30 days of hireComplete CPR/AED (or BLS/AED), and First AidUnderstand and abide-by all policies and procedures as set forth by the associationWork a schedule that reflects the needs of the branch; including evenings and weekends
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for safety and well-being of slide participants.

Responsible for positioning self for optimal supervision of slide ladder and launch areas; manage timing of participants slide ladder ascent, check minimum height requirement, and launch into the slide.

Providing clear and consistent expectations for behavior; setting firm limits with positive phrasing and actions as necessary.

Working in conjunction with aquatics staff to promote safety first.

Following and enforcing all safety procedures, rules and regulations.

Being able to positively correct any unsafe pool activity immediately, every time, without exception.

Being knowledgeable and prepared to implement emergency procedures immediately.

Reporting all incidents/accidents on the appropriate form and provide to supervisor within 24 hours of event.

Never leaving slide unattended.

Reporting any facility or equipment irregularities to supervisor, in writing.

Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of deck and other cleaning duties as assigned.

Attend all required training and scheduled meetings.

Maintaining good attendance and following procedures for tardies and absences.

Maintaining effective, positive relationships with members, participants, staff, and volunteers.

Supporting Strong Community Campaign fundraising efforts.

Other duties as assigned.
