Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated Evening Manager on Duty to lead our operations during evening hours. This pivotal role involves overseeing the smooth functioning of the YMCA, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, and maintaining a safe and efficient environment. As the Evening Manager on Duty, you will be responsible for managing staff, coordinating event activities, and making critical operational decisions to uphold our high standards of service and safety. Your leadership will ensure that every evening runs seamlessly, creating memorable experiences for our guests while fostering a positive team atmosphere.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Member Experience & Service Contribute to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility. Greet members, participants, staff, volunteers, and guests in a friendly, welcoming, and professional manner. Respond to member and guest needs and questions with accurate information and appropriate follow-through. Address concerns and complaints in a calm, respectful, and service-focused manner. Conduct tours and educate members and prospective members about YMCA services, programs, events, and volunteer opportunities. Assist with the welcome desk, facility access, phones, and member service needs during peak periods. Staff Leadership & Evening Operations Serve as the designated on-site leader during assigned shifts when a higher-ranking director or coordinator is not present. Provide direction and support to on-duty staff and volunteers to help ensure that YMCA policies, procedures, safety standards, and service expectations are followed. Monitor facility operations and staffing needs throughout the shift and communicate concerns to the appropriate YMCA leadership. Address immediate operational or safety concerns within the authority of the position and escalate matters that require management or administrative action. Support a positive, respectful, and professional work environment. The MOD does not independently make employment decisions such as hiring, termination, compensation changes, or formal disciplinary decisions unless specifically authorized by YMCA leadership. Safety, Child Protection & Risk Management Follow and reinforce all YMCA safety policies, emergency procedures, child-safety practices, and applicable program requirements. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with children, youth, vulnerable participants, members, and guests. Monitor the facility for unsafe conditions, hazards, policy violations, or concerns that may affect the safety of members, participants, staff, or volunteers. Promptly report suspected abuse, neglect, inappropriate conduct, boundary violations, or other child-safety concerns according to YMCA policy and applicable reporting requirements. Do not independently investigate suspected abuse or child-safety concerns; immediately follow the YMCA's established reporting and escalation procedures. Notify appropriate YMCA leadership of significant incidents, injuries, safety concerns, complaints, needed repairs, or other situations requiring follow-up. Emergency Response Respond to emergencies promptly, calmly, and professionally. Follow the YMCA's emergency action procedures and contact emergency services when appropriate. Initiate evacuation, shelter-in-place, lockdown, or other emergency procedures asdirected by YMCA policy or the circumstances require. Secure affected areas when appropriate and help maintain the safety of members,participants, staff, volunteers, and guests. Complete required incident documentation and promptly notify the appropriate YMCA leadership following significant incidents. Facility Operations Enforce YMCA policies and guidelines for the gym, weight room, cardio room, Intergen Room, and other areas of the facility in a courteous and consistent manner. Conduct regular rounds throughout the facility and grounds to monitorsafety, cleanliness, security, member experience, and facility operations. Ensure exterior and interior doors are appropriately secured and monitored duringthe assigned shift. Ensure walkways and pathways are clear, safe, and passable. Assist members, program participants, and guests as needed, including providingappropriate assistance related to fitness equipment when trained and authorized todo so. Maintain knowledge of facility hours, programs, special events, access procedures,emergency procedures, and closing procedures. Conduct all assigned closing procedures and verify that the facility is properlysecured at the conclusion of the shift. Complete required cleaning, safety, and facility checklists as assigned. Write and maintain accurate incident and shift documentation. Attend all required training and meetings. Perform other duties as assigned by YMCA leadership
Physical Demands:
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time, to talk and hear, to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, to climb or balance, to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, occasional bending or squatting. The incumbent is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Also required is frequent hearing and talking, in person and on the telephone. More than 50% of time may be spent outdoors.
