Job Description

Haslett Public Schools Lifeguarding Positions Early Bird (ages 18 and up) and Evening Lifeguards (ages 16 and up)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum age of 16 years Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or ability to acquire before beginning work). Certification reimbursement is an option after three months of employment with documentation of payment and course completion. Strong swimming skills, including the ability to: Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination. Tread water for 2 minutes using only legs. Complete a timed event (swim 20 yards, perform a surface dive to retrieve a 10-pound object from the bottom of the pool (7-10 feet deep), swim 20 yards on your back with the object, and exit the water without using a ladder or steps within 1 minute, 40 seconds). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and effective in emergency situations. Strong observation and decision-making skills. Reliable and punctual. Ability to work flexible hours
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ages 18 and above Preferred availability from 5:45 AM - 8:45 AM, Monday-Thursday 3 years Lifeguarding experience Experience with or a desire to assist with additional community aquatic programs
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively supervise swimmers to prevent accidents and ensure safety. Enforce all pool rules and regulations clearly and consistently. Recognize and respond immediately to aquatic emergencies, including performing rescues and providing first aid and CPR/AED as needed. Complete incident/accident reports accurately and thoroughly. Assist patrons with sign-in and payment as needed. Maintain cleanliness and order of the pool area, deck, and equipment. Conduct routine safety checks of the facility and equipment. Educate patrons on safe swimming practices and facility guidelines. Attend all mandatory in-service training and staff meetings. Provide excellent customer service to all patrons. Mentor new guards during their first 2-3 shifts
HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT
Varied, 6 to 20 hours per week depending on employee availability
