- December 1, 2025 Apply Job Type Full-time Description Full time Lifeguard (36-40 hours weekly) Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and surrounding areas.
Requirements Education and Experience:
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Current Lifeguarding and CPR/AED for the PR certifications required.
- Must maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness and have mature judgment and sound decision-making.
- Ability to relate to people in a positive, but firm manner must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
- Must be able to effectively communicate information on aquatics and other Y programs to members and participants.
General Functions:
- Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck and surrounding areas. Prevents accidents by maintaining constant observation of the pool area, enforcing health and safety rules and maintaining emergency readiness.
- Responds to emergency situations in accordance with Y policies and procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as required.
- Maintains effective relationships with the members, participants and other staff. Develops rapport with members.
- Conveys basic information on Y programs and schedules to members, and as appropriate, refers members to other programs and/or staff.
- Attends staff meetings and training courses as scheduled.
- Takes pool attendance and maintains related records as required.
- Performs routine maintenance of the pool and surrounding areas, to ensure cleanliness.
- Checks pool and rescue equipment and promptly reports any problems.
- Sets up and stores equipment for recreational swims and assists instructors with class set up.

- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, push, squat, sit, crouch, walk, kneel, twist, pull, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period, run, throw, swim, Climb ladders, walk, shovel snow, plow snow, have finger dexterity, grasp, talk, hear, have visual acuity, ?vocal projection and perform repetitive motions..
- While performing this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
- Must be alert, always keeping safety in mind. Must have acceptable hearing and visual capabilities to monitor the environment and well-being of members.?
- Must be capable of working under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.
- May be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time.?
- Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).
- Ability to travel locally to meetings.
