Head Guard Job Description:
Responsible for performing work of moderate difficulty in the management of a swimming facility within a recreational complex. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Aquatic Supervisor or other administrative superior and includes the supervision of lifeguards and swim instructors. Work involves coordinating daily operations of the swimming pool including lessons and public sessions. Work is reviewed through conferences and observation of results achieved, for conformance to established policies, goals and objectives of the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Certification:

Lifeguard Job Description:
Responsible for providing a safe and enjoyable aquatic environment with outstanding customer service and assisting with facility cleaning duties. Minimum of one shift per week: morning, daytime, evening and weekend shift schedules are based on availability of employee; may be required to work either one Friday or Saturday evening shift, if needed. Minimum age of 16.

Pay Scale:
$16.00 - $18.50/hour; merit-based increase available annually Essential duties and responsibilities include the following, however other duties may be assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Enforces pool safety rules and regulations. Maintains the chemical balance of the indoor pool environment. Assists with the maintenance of locker rooms, pool, and pool deck concession area. Coordinates emergency first aid procedures. Maintains equipment and supplies. Interprets policies and procedures to staff and the public. Assists with in-service training and year all-staff trainings. Handles discipline problems with staff and pool patrons. Performs related work as required. Education and Experience Required One year of related work experience or other equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of formal lifeguard training and certification as a Lifeguard by the American Red Cross, Starguard, or Ellis Lifeguard Program. Training and certification opportunities will be provided. For incoming Starguard and Ellis & Associates Lifeguards, a bridge training will be required and provided. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of pool facilities maintenance and operations. Familiar with best practice principles and techniques of pool and personnel supervision. Communicate effectively in interpreting policies and procedures and in resolving conflicts or personnel problems.
