Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor or designee, this position is responsible for swimmer/patron safety by supervising and or teaching swimmers water safety classes, enforcing swimming pool rules, and for basic pool maintenance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
below is not intended to be an all-inclusive of the duties, skills, and responsibilities of the Lifeguard Enforce swimming pool rules among patrons and assist those involved in accidents in life endangering situations; Maintain lifeguard station; May assess correct and safe placement of students for swimming instruction (must be WSI certified); Assist in organizing swimming classes; registration, scheduling, and placement; May supervise students swimming; monitor swimming strokes and technique, observe and detect errors, and assist in correcting errors and imperfections (must be WSI certified); Prepare special reports; lesson plans, work sheets, and American Red Cross Course Record sheets; Maintain and care for all aquatic equipment and teaching aides; May assist patrons in weight room; May assist with clerical / front desk duties; Clean dressing rooms, pool area, and front desk area; Other related duties as directed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a current Lifeguard certification issued by American Red Cross at time of hire Must have, or be able to obtain within six months of hire, First Aid and CPR certification Preferred are current Water Safety Instructor and Emergency Water Safety certificates issued by the American Red Cross (WSI required if performing instructor duties) Must have High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), exception for full-time high school students; must be at least 16 years of age Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license and be insurable by City's vehicle insurance carrier
Pay:
$15.30 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
