Job Description

Overview:
Responsible for all aspects of pool management and safety on a daily basis. Supports all pool recreational activities through supervision of the pool aides. Lifeguards will ensure that all pool staff are appropriate role models and are productively involved with the students.
Responsibilities:
Supervises all aquatic and recreational activities at the pool. He/she will be on duty whenever there are students, staff and/or other persons in the pool area. Oversees all swimming activities, adaptive aquatics and implements (through the pool aides) other activities designed to enhance student's physical and recreational development to maximize the student's ability to function in the water. Ensure that pool safety and appropriate pool behaviors (pool rules) are maintained (i.e. condition and placement of life-saving equipment). Reports any defects to the Assistant Director and/or Program Supervisor. Report any incidents, injuries, seizures and any changes in the student's physical condition to the Program Nurse and/or Program Supervisor or Assistant Director immediately. Completes Incident reports and maintains log of all pool incidents. Maintains all essential program records including recording chlorine and pH levels as required, as required on the appropriate Health Department forms. On a weekly basis, practice and review emergency procedures with pool staff. Attend staff and/or other meetings, as required by administration.

Demonstrate the ability to recognize and manage personal behaviors to create an inclusive, equitable and welcoming environment. Demonstrate the ability to deliver culturally responsive services to students and families. Perform other related duties assigned by the Assistant Director and/or Program Supervisor that are appropriate for the well-being and safety of the students. Ensure that work-related safety procedures are in place and are being adhered to by staff. Observance of an unsafe act or a potentially hazardous work environment must be immediately reported to a supervisor .
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Nassau County Certification for Lifeguard American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiac Care required. Prior experience working with students with disabilities preferred. Physical Aspects may include but are not limited to lifting and transferring of an adult/student.
