Lifeguards are responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and enjoyable pool environment for our members, guests, and their families. The ideal candidate is dependable, professional, comfortable working with children and adults, and able to remain alert and focused throughout their shift. Lifeguards are expected to provide excellent member service while consistently following all pool safety procedures and emergency protocols. Essential Responsibilities Maintain constant and attentive surveillance of the pool and surrounding pool area Ensure the safety of all members and guests using the pool Enforce pool rules and safety policies in a friendly, professional, and respectful manner Respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies and water rescues Perform First Aid, CPR, and AED procedures when necessary and within the scope of training Complete incident reports and communicate any accidents, injuries, or safety concerns to the Pool Manager or appropriate supervisor Monitor pool conditions and report any unsafe conditions, equipment concerns, or maintenance issues Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe pool deck and surrounding areas Maintain a professional appearance and wear appropriate lifeguard attire while on duty Provide courteous and professional service to Pittsburgh Golf Club members and guests Assist with pool opening and closing duties as assigned Work cooperatively with other lifeguards, pool staff, and Club management Attend required staff meetings, in-service training, and safety reviews Perform other duties as assigned by the Pool Manager or Club Management Required Qualifications and Certifications Must be at least 15 years of age Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification , including deep water lifeguarding as applicable to the Club pool Current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification Current First Aid certification The American Red Cross Lifeguarding certification includes CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid and is generally valid for two years upon successful completion of the required course. citeturn0search5turn0search9 Must be physically capable of performing water rescues and all required lifeguarding skills Must be able to successfully complete the swimming and physical prerequisites associated with the required lifeguarding certification Previous lifeguarding experience is preferred but not required Previous experience working at a private club, pool, recreation facility, camp, or with children is a plus Preferred Qualifications Strong communication and interpersonal skills Professional and friendly demeanor Dependable and punctual Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during an emergency Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team Strong customer service skills Work Environment and Physical Requirements Lifeguards must be able to remain alert and attentive for extended periods of time and may be required to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, and enter the pool quickly in response to an emergency. The position requires the ability to perform strenuous physical activity when necessary, including swimming, water rescue, retrieving a swimmer, and providing emergency care. Schedule This is a seasonal, part time position. Lifeguards should be available to work a flexible schedule that may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special Club events. Scheduling will be based on pool operating hours, member activities, special events, and staffing needs.
