SUMMARY A
Swim Lesson Aide at Sarah Heinz House works directly with children enrolled in our aquatics program, providing safe, engaging, and high-quality swim instruction. Working under the direction of the Head Swim Instructor and Aquatics Director, Swim Instructors implement prepared lesson plans while adapting instruction to meet the individual needs and abilities of their assigned group. As a positive adult role model, Swim Instructors build confidence, promote water safety, and foster positive relationships with members, families, volunteers, staff, and the community. All Sarah Heinz House employees are held to the highest standards and are expected to uphold our mission of empowering youth to laugh, learn, and lead.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at all times. Teach swim lessons using lesson plans provided by the Head Swim Instructor. Adapt instruction and activities as needed to meet the developmental and skill levels of your assigned group. Provide positive reinforcement while helping participants build confidence and improve swimming skills. Promote water safety and enforce all pool rules and procedures. Monitor participant progress and communicate concerns or achievements to the Head Swim Instructor. Arrive prepared and provide consistent instruction during all assigned classes. Assist with swim assessments and program events as needed. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pool deck and instructional area. Attend required staff meetings and trainings. Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
CPR/AED/First Certification required. Previous experience teaching swimming or working with children preferred. Must be comfortable in the water and able to demonstrate and teach all four competitive strokes. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification preferred, but not required. Lifeguard Certification preferred, but not required. FBI Fingerprint Registry Check PA Child Abuse Registry PA State Criminal Background Check National Sex Offender Registry
SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Passion for working with children. Strong understanding of swimming fundamentals and water safety. Ability to supervise children and manage behavior in and around the pool. Strong communication and instructional skills. Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and professionalism. Ability to adapt instruction to meet participants' varying needs and abilities. Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Swim Instructor, Aquatics Director, and aquatics staff. Commitment to the mission, values, and policies of Sarah Heinz House.
