The Park Board of Trustees is currently hiring for Lifeguards to perform emergency services for our park in the Galveston, TX area. In this hospitality position, you play a crucial role in guarding the beach from an assigned lifeguard tower to protect beachgoers. Monitor all activity on the beach and respond to emergencies both in the water and within an assigned patrol area. Administer emergency medical care, first aid, and CPR, as well as use emergency rescue equipment. Operate radio equipment for emergency responsive communications. Maintain public safety by enforcing all beach ordinances while abiding by written Galveston Beach Patrol policies and procedures as per the training manual. Document any issues and perform accurate computer operations when necessary. Access all areas of the work environment. Maintain the lifeguard tower when scheduled. Able to access and utilize emergency rescue equipment. Act as a first responder in an emergency situation on land or in water, including extended search and rescue. Remove hazardous obstacles from the water. Abide by all written Galveston Beach Patrol policies and procedures as per the training manual, including dress code and hydration procedures. Requirements for a Seasonal First Responder /
Lifeguard:
At least 16 years of age due to insurance. American Red Cross Emergency Medical Response certification. Red Cross or American Heart Association Professional CPR Successful completion of Galveston Island Beach Patrol's Lifeguard Academy Demonstrate the standard physical requirements per the United States Lifesaving Association.
  • All required certifications and trainings are provided during the Lifeguard Academy if successfully completed.
Work Schedule:
Must be available to work all major holidays as required. Shifts are generally 8 or 9 hours/day, depending on the time of year. Required to complete a daily workout schedule of one (1) hour per day. This position in tourism and hospitality typically works from mid-March to mid-October, with shifts falling between the hours of 7 AM
  • 9 PM.
The beach parks are open seven days a week.
Pay Details:
 $18.00/hour after successful completion of the academy. At the end of the season, a longevity incentive of $2 per hour worked is paid to lifeguards who work more than 500 hours during the season.
