Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION
Under the general direction of the Director of Clinical Services, the Housekeeper's role is to perform tasks which provide a sanitary and safe environment which promotes the well-being of our patients, visitors, and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and maintain a good working rapport with all personnel and patients to ensure services can be adequately maintained. Defrost refrigerators as needed. Take temperature of assigned refrigerators daily and document. Dust blinds regularly as needed. Wash bed rails, and over-bed tables daily. Clean and mop family and employee kitchenette daily.
Terminal cleaning of rooms:
wash bed, mattress, over-bed table, and all other portable equipment with approved solution. Clean blinds, steams chairs and daybed .Clean bathroom using approved solution on floor, sink, shower, and toilet. Sweep and mop floors Clean spills immediately and place barrier to caution other people. Be certain cleaning solutions are properly marked and stored. Never leave them out and unattended. Observe and report hazardous situations to your immediate supervisor. Remove trash as needed. Assure timely review of all emails and voice messages to ensure responsive patient/family services and compliance. Ensure facility refrigerators, excluding kitchen, are cleaned, defrosted, and free of expired products. Successfully complete the annually required in-services as assigned. Attend regular staff meetings as scheduled. Inform supervisor of unusual, problematic patient/family issues. Participate in emergency disaster processes as defined by HGI policies. Demonstrates familiarity with HGI policies/procedures and follows state and federal regulatory requirements. Maintains a positive work atmosphere by demonstrating behavior and communicating in a professional manner suitable for interaction with customers, clients, co-workers and management. Dust furniture in lobby area, hallways, conference rooms, and patient rooms daily. Vacuum building as assigned. Clean bathrooms, using approved solution on sinks, showers, and toilets daily and as needed. Perform other duties assigned as needed.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High school education or equivalent with 1-2 years of commercial housekeeping experience preferably in a health care environment. Knowledge of Hazmat labeling and chemical cleaning product storage. Must demonstrate an understanding of methods which prevent the spread of infection and disease. Must demonstrate understanding of housekeeping procedures which promote safety and prevent accidents and fires. Must demonstrate a friendly and pleasant attitude with the ability to work around terminally ill patients and their families in a manner that provides emotional support. Must have the ability to work alone or with a team and possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires moderate to intense use of hands, arms, and back and lifting weights up to 50lbs. The work environment is primarily within a clinical setting, cleaning patients' rooms, nurses' stations, bathrooms, offices and common building areas. This position has daily contact with patients, families, volunteers and HGI staff requiring good communication. May require work in early mornings, late evenings and weekends as scheduled.
