Job Description

Housekeeper - Senior Living Community Position Summary The Housekeeper maintains a clean, safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment for residents, visitors, and staff. This role cleans resident rooms, common areas, bathrooms, and other assigned spaces while following infection-control, safety, and privacy procedures. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, respectful, and comfortable working around older adults. Key Responsibilities Clean and disinfect resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, lounges, dining areas, offices, and other common spaces. Dust furniture and surfaces; sweep, vacuum, mop, and periodically polish floors. Change bed linens, make beds, and replenish towels, toiletries, and other supplies. Empty trash and dispose of waste according to facility procedures. Clean mirrors, windows, fixtures, vents, furniture, and high-touch surfaces. Collect, wash, dry, fold, and distribute resident or facility laundry when assigned. Perform deep cleaning and prepare rooms for new residents after move-outs. Follow established infection-control, chemical-handling, and workplace-safety procedures. Use cleaning products and equipment safely and according to manufacturer instructions. Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged property, low supplies, or unusual resident conditions to a supervisor. Respect residents' privacy, personal belongings, preferences, and dignity. Respond courteously to reasonable resident requests and work cooperatively with care, dining, maintenance, and housekeeping teams. Complete assigned cleaning schedules, checklists, and documentation accurately. Perform other housekeeping duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous housekeeping, janitorial, healthcare, hotel, or senior-living experience is preferred. Knowledge of cleaning products, disinfectants, equipment, and safe sanitation practices is helpful. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete assignments independently. Strong attention to detail, time management, and reliability. Professional and compassionate communication with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers. High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not always required. Must meet any applicable background-check, health-screening, and training requirements. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, reach, kneel, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements. Ability to lift and carry supplies, linens, and equipment, typically up to 25-50 pounds, depending on facility requirements. Ability to safely operate vacuums, laundry equipment, carts, and other housekeeping tools. Ability to work around cleaning chemicals, bodily-fluid cleanup, and potentially infectious materials while using required protective equipment. Work Schedule This position may be full-time or part-time and may require weekends, holidays, early mornings, evenings, or rotating shifts based on community needs.
