Job Description:
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment for residents, visitors, and staff. Housekeepers perform daily cleaning and sanitation duties in resident rooms, common areas, offices, restrooms, and other facility areas while following infection control and safety guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Clean and sanitize resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, dining areas, and common spaces. Dust, sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors and surfaces. Empty trash containers and dispose of waste according to facility policies. Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces to help prevent the spread of infection. Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, and hand sanitizer. Make beds and maintain resident room cleanliness as assigned. Clean windows, mirrors, furniture, and fixtures. Follow established infection control procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and damaged equipment to the appropriate department. Assist with floor care duties, including buffing, stripping, and waxing floors as assigned. Maintain housekeeping carts, equipment, and storage areas in a clean and organized manner. Respond promptly and courteously to resident and family requests. Participate in facility training and mandatory in-service education programs. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous housekeeping experience in healthcare or long-term care preferred, but not required. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety procedures preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and lift throughout the workday. Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Ability to safely operate housekeeping equipment and cleaning tools. Working Conditions Exposure to cleaning chemicals and disinfectants. Frequent interaction with residents, visitors, and staff. May be exposed to infectious diseases and bodily fluids; adherence to infection control procedures is required. Expectations Demonstrate compassion, professionalism, and respect toward residents and coworkers. Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
