Albuquerque, New Mexico Position Summary The Housekeeping Room Attendant is responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, inspecting, and preparing guest rooms to meet Holiday Inn Express/IHG standards and the hotel's expectations for cleanliness and guest satisfaction. This position is one of the most important roles in the hotel. The cleanliness and condition of a guest room directly impacts the guest's overall experience. Room Attendants are expected to work efficiently while maintaining attention to detail and ensuring every assigned room is properly cleaned and guest-ready. Essential Job Duties Report to work on time, in proper uniform, and ready to begin assigned duties. Review the daily room assignment/housekeeping board and complete all assigned rooms. Clean checkout rooms, stayover rooms, and other assigned areas according to hotel and IHG standards. Make beds with clean linens and ensure bedding is properly presented. Remove used linens, towels, trash, and guest-discarded items. Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including toilets, showers/tubs, sinks, mirrors, counters, floors, and fixtures. Dust and wipe furniture, lamps, headboards, desks, nightstands, televisions, and other surfaces. Vacuum carpets and clean hard-surface flooring. Clean mirrors, windows, doors, and other glass surfaces as assigned. Restock towels, toiletries, coffee supplies, cups, tissues, toilet paper, and other required guest amenities. Check that guest room equipment and amenities are present and functioning properly. Inspect the room before leaving to ensure nothing has been missed. Ensure guest room doors are completely closed and secured when leaving the room. Never leave an unattended guest room open or unsecured. Report maintenance issues, damages, missing items, or unusual room conditions immediately. Report lost-and-found items according to hotel procedures. Properly organize and maintain the housekeeping cart throughout the shift. Keep housekeeping closets, storage areas, and work areas clean and organized. Handle hotel linens, supplies, equipment, and chemicals properly. Follow proper chemical labeling, storage, and safety procedures. Complete assigned deep-cleaning projects when requested. Assist with cleaning public areas when necessary. Follow all hotel security, guest privacy, key-control, and safety procedures. Communicate room status and any delays or concerns to management or the Housekeeping Supervisor. Complete assigned rooms before leaving for the day unless otherwise approved by management. Assist other housekeeping team members when reasonably requested. Stayover Service Stayover rooms must be serviced according to the hotel's current housekeeping procedures and guest preferences.
Light stayover service may include:
Removing trash Replacing used towels Restocking bathroom amenities and supplies Making or straightening the bed as required Cleaning and refreshing the bathroom Wiping necessary surfaces Vacuuming or cleaning floors as needed Restocking coffee and other guest supplies Long-term stays and rooms requiring full service must be completed according to hotel and IHG procedures. Room Quality Standards Speed is important, but quality should never be sacrificed simply to finish a room faster . Before marking a room complete, the Room Attendant should perform a final inspection and view the room from the perspective of an arriving guest.
Rooms should be:
Clean. Fresh. Organized. Fully stocked. Free of hair, dust, trash, stains, odors, and visible debris. Management and supervisors may inspect completed rooms to ensure hotel standards are consistently being met. If a room does not meet standards, the Room Attendant may be required to return to the room and correct the issue. Productivity & Time Management Room Attendants are expected to work efficiently and maintain reasonable productivity throughout their shift.
Employees should:
Begin assigned rooms promptly. Avoid unnecessary downtime between rooms. Keep carts properly stocked to reduce unnecessary trips. Notify management when a room requires significantly more time due to excessive cleaning, maintenance problems, or unusual circumstances. Communicate immediately if there is a concern about completing the assigned room board. Complete assigned work within the scheduled shift whenever reasonably possible. Employees should not remain on the clock beyond their scheduled shift without management approval. Guest Privacy & Security Guest privacy and security must be respected at all times.
Room Attendants must:
Follow proper procedures before entering an occupied room. Announce themselves as "Housekeeping" before entering. Respect Do Not Disturb signs and guest requests. Never allow unauthorized individuals into guest rooms. Never provide room numbers or guest information to another person. Never open a guest room for someone claiming to be the registered guest; direct them to the Front Desk for assistance. Never remove or use guest belongings. Immediately turn in all lost-and-found items according to hotel procedures. Properly control assigned keys or electronic access devices. Guest Service Expectations Housekeeping employees may interact with guests throughout the property and are expected to be courteous and professional. When encountering a guest, employees should acknowledge them and assist when reasonably possible. If a guest has a request that cannot be handled directly, the request should be communicated to the Front Desk or management. Guest complaints or concerns should never be ignored. Housekeeping Cart & Equipment Standards Housekeeping carts must remain clean, organized, and properly stocked.
Employees are responsible for:
Keeping clean and dirty linens separated. Properly securing chemicals. Removing trash regularly. Returning supplies and equipment to their designated areas. Reporting damaged equipment. Keeping hallways and guest areas clear of unnecessary carts, trash, linens, and supplies. Carts should never be positioned in a manner that unnecessarily blocks guest hallways or emergency exits. Qualifications Previous hotel housekeeping or professional cleaning experience preferred but not required. Dependable and punctual. Strong attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to follow cleaning procedures and checklists. Ability to manage time and complete assigned rooms efficiently. Ability to communicate concerns to supervisors and management. Professional attitude when interacting with guests and coworkers. Must maintain professional appearance and follow hotel uniform and grooming standards. Ability to work weekends and holidays as scheduled. Physical Requirements Housekeeping is a physically demanding position. Employees must be able to perform repetitive physical activity throughout the shift, including: Standing and walking for extended periods Bending and kneeling Reaching and stretching Pushing and pulling housekeeping carts Lifting and carrying linens and supplies Making beds and moving bedding Vacuuming and mopping Repetitive hand and arm movements Employees must be able to safely lift and carry approximately 25-40 pounds and perform the physical responsibilities required to clean guest rooms. Attendance & Reliability Dependable attendance and punctuality are essential to the housekeeping operation. The number of rooms assigned to each employee is based on hotel occupancy and staffing. Late arrivals and unscheduled absences can significantly impact the workload of the entire housekeeping team. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled and notify management according to hotel procedures if an emergency prevents them from reporting to work. Schedule Housekeeping schedules are based on hotel occupancy and business needs and may include: Weekdays Weekends Holidays High-occupancy periods Additional hours when necessary Shift lengths may vary depending on occupancy, room assignments, staffing levels, and operational needs.
