FEATURES OF THE CLASS

The work involves performing a variety of cleaning duties at the Long-Term Care Facility of the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. The incumbent performs a variety of cleaning and sanitary duties in assigned offices and general areas of the building. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher ranking supervisory employee. Supervision is not a function of this position. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

Vacuums, sweeps, mops and buffs corridors, stairs, stairwells, walls, furniture and equipment; Uses extension pole, ladder and scaffolds while cleaning walls, washing light fixtures, changing drapes or other activities; Shampoos and changes rugs when necessary; Cleans resident rooms when assigned requiring a high degree of cleanliness to minimize possible spread of infection; Gathers and disposes refuse as directed; Cleans public and resident-use bathrooms, scouring sinks, wet mopping floors, disinfecting toilet bowl, wiping down all surfaces and replenishing necessary supplies; Moves furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning tasks; Maintains supply rooms for housekeeping throughout the building; Uses a variety of manual and mechanical equipment.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Working knowledge of the properties of various cleaning substances; ability to understand and follow verbal and simple written instructions; ability to communicate in a cheerful and tactful manner; dependability; thoroughness; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

There are no education or experience requirements. Applicants must be able to perform light to moderately heavy physical labor and read and understand the English language.
