Dietary Worker Job Description This role prepares and cooks a variety of hot and cold food items for patients, staff, and visitors in a hospital setting. Shifts include back-of-house cooking from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and customer-facing cooking from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with every other weekend required. The position focuses on accurate food preparation, portioning, and presentation across multiple meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, and special or catered events. Responsibilities Accurately prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and cold food items for different meal periods, including breakfast, lunch, and special or catered events. Read and follow basic recipes and product directions to prepare a wide range of menu items consistently and safely. Perform food preparation tasks such as ingredient measuring, chopping, mixing, and assembling items for tray line and meal service. Work on the tray line to ensure timely and accurate assembly of meals according to dietary requirements and portion standards. Operate as a line cook in the kitchen, managing multiple orders and items simultaneously while maintaining quality and speed. May prepare food and serve customers at an à la carte station and/or operate a grill station in a customer-facing environment. Apply proper food safety and sanitation practices throughout food production and service, including safe handling, storage, and temperature control. Support overall foodservice operations, including kitchen prep and food production, as needed to meet business and client requirements. Attend scheduled shifts on time with satisfactory regularity and maintain reliable attendance every other weekend. Adapt to changing business needs and perform other related duties as assigned, which may differ depending on the account and operational requirements. Contribute to a healthy and safe working environment for all by following established procedures and collaborating with the team. Essential Skills At least 1 year of cook experience in a foodservice or kitchen environment. Ability to read and follow recipes and product directions accurately. Hands-on experience with kitchen prep, tray line, and line cook duties. Knowledge of basic food production and food prep techniques. Understanding of food safety practices and safe food handling procedures. Capability to work in both back-of-house and customer-facing retail cook roles. Reliable attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts, including every other weekend. Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively in a busy kitchen. Adaptability to changing tasks and business needs in a healthcare foodservice setting. Commitment to maintaining a healthy and safe working environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications 12 years of previous related experience in hospital, healthcare, or similar foodservice settings is beneficial. Experience operating a grill station or à la carte service is an advantage. Ability to work in a climate-controlled environment while managing multiple tasks.
