Job Description

We have an immediate need for a Grab & Go Lead (Chef level) at our Melville Store's Deli Department. The Grab & Go Lead plays a key leadership role in overseeing the daily operations of our Grab & Go production program. This position is responsible for managing production lists, supervising a large team, ensuring accurate labeling and compliance, and maintaining the highest standards of food safety, quality, and organization. The ideal candidate is a proactive, bilingual (Spanish/English) leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering exceptional results Responsibilities Generate and manage daily production lists for all Grab & Go items, including sandwiches, salads, and prepared meals. Motivate and direct a team of up to 20 associates to efficiently meet sales floor needs and production timelines. Oversee sandwich and salad production, ensuring quality, consistency, and timeliness. Ensure labeling compliance by verifying label accuracy, proper placement, and adherence to company standards. Utilize and navigate labeling software, demonstrating strong computer literacy and attention to detail. Manage product rotation using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices to ensure freshness and minimize waste. Generate catering orders such as sandwich platters and salads as needed for customer or internal events. Maintain a clean, organized walk-in box and storage areas, ensuring product is properly stored and rotated. Create orders for packaging supplies and food items used in Grab & Go production. Collaborate closely with kitchen leads to coordinate production schedules and meet operational goals. Participate in daily and quarterly inventories, assisting in accurate counting and organization. Enforce and model proper food safety and sanitation practices in accordance with health department regulations. Communicate effectively in Spanish and English to guide, instruct, and support team members. Work well under pressure, particularly during peak periods, ensuring timely delivery of items to the sales floor. Support deli operations as needed, including prep and customer service. Requirements HS Diploma or equivalent 2+ years of experience in food production or deli operations, with at least 1 year in a leadership role. Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and labeling standards. Experience managing teams and production in a fast-paced environment. Bilingual (Spanish/English) required. Computer literacy, including the ability to use labeling and inventory software. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative work style. ServSafe certification (preferred but not required). Working Conditions Most of the time is spent moving about continuously on hard surfaces. There may be a need to frequently position oneself to examine and/or scan merchandise, including bending, climbing, crawling, handling, pulling, reaching, and stooping. May require lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects more than 30 pounds with assistance. Usually in a comfortable indoor environment surrounded by moving machinery and/or loud equipment that may require shouting in order to be heard. There could be exposure to temperature extremes from freezers, ovens, and/or coolers. There may be occasional exposure to cleaning agents, sharp objects/industrial equipment necessary to perform job duties and functions.
