Job Description
Cook Job Description Purpose To ensure the co-ops food production is efficient and to ensure the kitchen is producing high quality food. In addition, assists the Prepared Foods Manager in meeting the goals margin in all programs. Status

(Hourly Position) Essential Responsibilities and FunctionsCUSTOMER SERVICE
- Ensure accurate signage is posted daily on all food options.
- Provide detailed product information to customers when requested.
- Communicate customer requests and/or concerns with Prepared Foods Manager.
KITCHEN OPERATIONS
- Rotate the current recipes to keep the selection inviting. Keep customer favorites in some type of regular rotation cycle.
- Assist Prepared Foods Manager with catering requests and develop a plan for both daily production and event production so that production does not fall behind due to any event.
- Track and monitor spoilage and review movement reports and shuttle logs weekly, adjusting production accordingly to minimize loss.
- Practice safe food handling.
- Make sure all food temperatures are recorded on a temp log and action is taken for any foods that fall outside of the critical control point.
- Make certain that kitchen and food storage areas are maintained in a sanitary, orderly condition meeting all Department of Health standards.
- Prctice proper storage and labeling procedures in the kitchen.
- Assist Prepared Foods Manager to ensure all staff dispose of unsellable items properly.
DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE
- Participate with Prepared Foods Manager in periodic inventory counts.
- Coordinate a regular cleaning schedule for the hood vents, oven, range and steamer and ensure schedule is followed.
- Monitor equipment condition and inform Prepared Foods Manager when equipment is in need of repair.
PERSONNEL
- Communicate performance concerns to Prepared Foods Manager.
- Maintain open communication with hot food staff and kitchen staff on an operational level.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Prepared Foods Manager in meeting objectives for sales, margin and turns.
- Participate in NCG prepared food programs and conferences when applicable.
- Attend meetings as requested to plan departmental menus, events and promotions with Prepared Foods Manager.
- Provide product information to be shared with customers and staff to the Prepared Foods Manager.
- Successfully complete and maintain food safety certification.
- Perform other tasks assigned by Prepared Foods Manager. Physical Job Requirements The physical requirements described here are those that an employee must meet, with or without reasonable accommodation, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Ability to use computer keyboard, monitor, mouse, telephone, and various office equipment continuously.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds frequently.

- Ability to be present and working in assigned area for up to 3 hours without rest.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, climb stairs or ladder.
- Ability to reach above shoulder height occasionally.
- Ability to talk and hear to communicate with customers.
- Finger and hand dexterity with ability to grasp and hold items of different sizes.
- Vision ability - close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception.

- Frequent exposure to cold, hot, wet or humid conditions.
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous materials ranging from natural to chemical (store products, cleaning products, scents from working in a public setting).
- Exposure to and potential handling of fresh foods including meats and seafood.
- Handling objects that have been handled by the public.
- Frequently performs work standing on cement floors.
- May work occasionally in temperature extremes (walk-in freezer, outside warehouse, hot kitchen, etc.).
- Noise level in the store is usually moderate to loud.
- 2+ years of professional cooking experience preferably in natural foods and/or a cooperative setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency operating and understanding POS systems.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to prioritize work tasks, multi-task, and maintain focus.
- Ability to facilitate group processes.
- Desire to foster and develop the best qualities and contributions of department personnel.
- Obtain and maintain a state Food Handler's permit and any other necessary licenses.
