JOB GOAL
To provide safe and efficient transportation on a daily basis so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantages from the district's Curriculum and extracurricular programs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Students
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses Assist the driver in maintaining good student conduct on the school bus Helps care for students who need special attention Assist young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus Assures students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion Provides written records (bus conduct forms) of violations of the student code to the school Principal Collects and turns over to the school secretary or transportation those personal items left on the bus by students Helps complete all forms and reports needed by the Transportation Office and returns them on or before the assigned date
Attends all meetings, conferences, and workshops as required Must have patience, and be kind and courteous (no foul language) with school personnel, parents and students at all times. Completes required interior bus inspections after each route to verify no students are remaining on board Enforces regulations against smoking (including chewing tobacco and snuff) and eating on the bus Deals with stressful conditions in a professional manner
Must wear appropriate attire: shoes (no flip flops or slippers), shirt or blouse (nothing advertising alcohol, tobacco, drugs or anything offensive or insensitive), dresses, skirts, or shorts (must be of an appropriate length), trousers (must not sag below the waist), etc. Must not use tobacco, drugs or alcohol while on school property or vehicles (zero tolerance on drugs or alcohol) Always uses good judgment and common sense Performs other related duties as requested or assigned by the Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
Mature with demonstrated interest in children and education. Able to read and write. Able to maintain discipline and safety on school bus in a professional manner. A satisfactory employment record. High School diploma or equivalent. Must pass police background records check. At least eighteen (18) years of age. Demonstrated ability, temperament, and personality to fulfill job responsibilities. Such additional requirements as the Superintendent may require.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent- preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read a limited number of words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit and drive and occasionally required to walk or stand. The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk while performing the duties of this job. The employee frequently repeats the same hand, arm or finger motion many times. The employee frequently uses hand strength to grasp tools. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds (such as students). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and peripheral vision.
OTHER SKILLS
Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to pass Mississippi Department of Transportation training programs and tests. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in temperatures above 100 and below 32 and occasionally will walk on slippery surfaces. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and other workers. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety and well-being of others. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud to where you have to raise your voice to be heard.
