Join one of the fastest-growing cities in Arizona and the youngest in Yuma County! Under general supervision is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, supervision and evaluation of community recreation programs, in specific areas of recreation at various community recreation facilities sponsored by the City of San Luis. Analyzes community and group recreational needs, selects and/or adapts programs to meet those needs, and procures necessary resources for implementing programs. Make effective use of facilities and staff. As the Recreation Coordinator, you will: Develop and implement recreational programs and activities suitable for individuals of different age groups and interests, considering the specific location (Cultural Center, Youth Center, or Recreation Center). Interact with public and private agencies, organizations, and individuals to plan and coordinate program activities. Develop, plan, organize, and schedule recreational activities, special events, services, facilities, and equipment. Supervise, train, assign, schedule, and evaluate the performance of recreational personnel. Assist in the preparation and management of the departmental budget, including tracking expenses, allocating resources, and seeking funding opportunities. Create, promote, and market recreational programs through various channels, such as social media, flyers, and community outreach, to attract participation and raise awareness. Communicate with local media personnel to announce upcoming recreational events. Collect registration fees for leagues/tournaments/recreational services and deposit money with the City Treasurer. Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and staff members involved in recreational programs, ensuring they adhere to established guidelines and safety protocols. Enforce all disciplinary actions and safety/sanitary/health standards, rules, and regulations. Prepare reports and maintain records. Oversee the maintenance and care of recreational/sports facilities, grounds, and equipment and schedules usage. Perform other duties as assigned. The following duties pertain to the Recreation Division only: Organizes sports leagues and tournaments and registers teams. Interprets and explains game rules, organizes sports teams, and/or officiates at recreational games and events. Records information about events and games, such as participants' names, scores, forfeits, violations, protests, league standings, schedules, etc.
Will possess knowledge of:
Complex principles and practices of outcome-based planning, administering, evaluating and coordinating recreation and community services. Principles, and practices of multipurpose facility management, including (rental, operations and supervision. Rules and regulations applicable to sporting events. Safety, sanitary, and health standards and regulations. First aid and emergency procedures. Community agencies, organizations, and resources. Principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and evaluation. Budgeting practices. Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers.
Will possess the ability to:
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and interact with the public. Prevent emergency situations from arising by recognizing and correcting dangerous situations. Enforce rules and regulate the conduct and activity of participants. Stimulate interest and enthusiasm among constituents. Supervise, train, and evaluate support staff. Pass a drug screening and background check.
Education, Training, and Experience:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent AND Three (3) years of full-time work planning, coordinating, organizing recreational activities/sports;
Licenses and Certifications:
All required licenses and certifications must be valid at the time of appointment and maintained throughout employment. Arizona Driver's License Level 1
Fingerprint Clearance Card First Aid/CPR Certification Special Requirements:
Residency in the United States and within 25 miles of the
City of San Luis Desired/Preferred:
Bilingual in Spanish. San Luis residency. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 10 pounds unaided. Employees must be physically capable of operating City vehicles, for job-related purposes, safely. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Mental Demands While performing the duties of this class, an employee uses written and oral communication skills; reads and interprets data, information and documents; analyzes and solves problems; uses math and mathematical reasoning; performs highly detailed work; deals with multiple concurrent tasks; and interacts with others encountered in the course of work, including frequent contact with customers and/or the public and dissatisfied individuals.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements. Vision is required to perform and monitor essential functions, and to complete data entry. There is need to stand, stoop, walk, and lift heavy objects (over 100 pounds) during the course of the workday. Requires the use of a vehicle on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely.
