Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with residents in long-term care.
  • Basic knowledge of current practices and communication strategies.
  • At least minimal experience in planning and directing activities for elderly residents, and in planning and organizing special programs for residents, families, and staff.
  • Good verbal communication skills, including the ability to give directions to others in a pleasant and easily understood manner.
  • Ability to display enthusiasm and a positive attitude in promoting activities, and enlisting facility team members' support for activity programming.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license
Essential Functions:
  • Assist the Director in planning and providing activities that support and maintain the residents' quality of life, and that meet state requirements for addressing the residents' social, physical, spiritual, and mental health.
  • Plans, coordinates, and implements active and passive activities to address the needs of residents with varying abilities.
  • Provides supportive activities in a comfortable environment to residents who are not able to tolerate the stimulation of a group program.
  • Assist the Director in creating displaying and distributing a monthly Activity Calendar that is both informative and attractive.
  • Assists the Director in maintaining an updated social history file on each resident.
  • Meets all new residents and families upon arrival, informing them of the activity program and encouraging participation.
  • Coordinates with the Dietary Department regarding food-related needs.
  • Role models Meaningful Moments to all staff.
  • Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed to support the smooth operation of the department and to meet the evolving needs of residents (including reception and front desk).
  • Assume a lead role in coordinating activities and providing assistance to staff in the absence of the Director or Administrator.
Working Conditions:
Able to work full-time or part-time as agreed upon with the Director, with some evening and weekend work Ability to travel locally, if necessary, to purchase supplies and participate in resident outings.
Physical/Sensory Requirements:
Medium work
  • Ability to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Must be able to see well enough to write and read English, use computer, and visually interact with residents, families, visitors and staff. Must be able to speak and hear well enough to verbally interact with residents, families, visitors and staff.
