JOB TITLE
Expanded Learning Athletic Specialist STATUS:
Part Time (Non-Exempt), up to 222 Work Days, up to 29 hours/wk
REPORTS TO

G3 Campus SUMMARY Vaughn Next Century Learning Center is seeking a dedicated and experienced Athletic Specialist to lead engaging sports activities for elementary school students. This role involves coaching soccer and basketball teams, facilitating recreational programs, and fostering a positive and inclusive sports environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with Site Coordinators and Program Coordinator to deliver high-quality after-school and weekend sports programming. Develop and implement safe, exciting, and structured athletic activities for students. Plan and lead sports training sessions for groups of up to 20 students. Conduct outreach efforts to promote athletic programs and increase student participation. Teach fundamental skills in soccer or basketball, including dribbling, passing, shooting, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Participate in sports scrimmages during weekday and weekend sessions. Provide individualized feedback and guidance to help students develop their athletic skills. Supervise student groups, ensuring a safe and structured environment during program hours. Meet with sports teams weekly to prepare them for scrimmages and competitions. Maintain accurate attendance records and submit them to leadership staff. Assist with setting up and cleaning up sports equipment and after-school materials. Encourage all students to participate actively in activities. Participate in sports events to showcase student progress and promote expanded learning programs. Accompanied students to competitions and tournaments. Implement Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) practices in alignment with Vaughn's policies. Follow established procedures for student sign-in/out, early dismissal, and snack time. Build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, school administrators, and program staff. Report any issues or concerns to leadership staff promptly. Attend training sessions conducted by Vaughn Human Resources and the expanded learning department. Ensure compliance with workplace safety guidelines and promote student safety in all sports activities. Wear a staff uniform and display a Vaughn staff badge daily for security purposes. Work year-round, including after-school programs, Summer Camp, January extended school year, and Spring Break Program. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma Candidates must also meet one of the following: Hold an Associate's degree or higher in Education, Kinesiology, or a related field; or Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills test, and have completed 48 college semester units, Minimum of one year of experience in Athletics working within an after-school setting, and knowledge of rules, techniques, and sports strategies Proficient in reading, writing, and mathematics Interest in soccer and/or basketball preferred Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in challenging situations Reliable transportation to arrive at the work site on time is required Availability to work occasional weekends for competitions
DESIRABLE SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Experience playing or teaching various sports
Bilingual:
English/Spanish CPR Certification Experience and commitment to working collaboratively with staff, parents, and the community
HOURLY RATES
$26 per hour (no bachelor's degree) $36 per hour (with bachelor's degree) Sick Time Accrual
