Mountain Recreation is seeking a caring and dependable Drop-In Childcare Attendant at the Gypsum Recreation Center to provide a safe, welcoming, and fun environment for children while their parent(s) enjoy the facility. This role is responsible for supervising children, engaging them in age-appropriate activities, and helping ensure a positive experience for both children and families. Ideal candidates enjoy working with kids, are attentive and reliable, and can create a friendly and supportive environment. Schedule:
Work schedules are variable and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, with hours based on the operational needs of the facility.
Supervision Required:
Reports to the Gypsum Recreation Center Facility Coordinator and Facility Supervisor.
Supervision Exercised:
None Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Duties are performed indoors in an active childcare and recreation environment and require sustained attention to the supervision, safety, and needs of infants, toddlers, and children. Typical physical activities include frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting and carrying children, equipment, and supplies up to 50 pounds, and pushing or pulling equipment and supplies. The position requires frequent interaction with children, families, and patrons and may involve exposure to common childhood illnesses, noise, and periods of continuous activity. Job-related stress may include managing multiple children and competing needs, interacting with challenging participants or patrons, responding to parent or guardian concerns, and periods of sustained activity and demand. Reasonable accommodations will be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Salary:
$17.32 - $19.92/hour DOE; staff in this position are eligible for a $1/hour incentive for Spanish/English bilingual and can pass the language competency test.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Statement of Duties:
Responsible for providing a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children attending the Gypsum Recreation Center drop-in childcare program. Provides attentive supervision and supports age-appropriate activities to promote a positive experience for children and families.
Examples of Duties:
Provide a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where children and families feel comfortable and supported. Actively supervise children and participate in age-appropriate activities, games, and creative play. Support positive behavior and provide appropriate redirection and guidance as needed. Follow established procedures for checking children into and out of the drop-in childcare program. Respond to and report accidents, injuries, safety concerns, or other incidents and complete required documentation in accordance with established procedures. Follow and consistently enforce drop-in childcare, facility, safety, and other applicable Mountain Recreation policies and procedures. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe childcare environment, including picking up toys and materials; cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, tables, chairs, and equipment; and sweeping, mopping, or vacuuming floors as needed. Monitor childcare supplies, cleaning supplies, and program materials and communicate needs to the supervisor. Build positive relationships with children, parents/guardians, and patrons and provide courteous and helpful customer service. Provide accurate information about Mountain Recreation facilities, programs, activities, and services as appropriate. Identify and promptly report potentially unsafe or hazardous conditions to the appropriate supervisor. Follow established procedures and seek supervisor guidance when situations fall outside established practices or require additional support. Act as a mandatory reporter and comply with all applicable mandatory reporting requirements and Mountain Recreation procedures. Requirements:
COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
General knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities, games, and play. Basic practices for maintaining a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children.
Skills and abilities:
Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interact positively and professionally with children, parents/guardians, patrons, and coworkers. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Strong customer service skills and a welcoming, helpful approach. Ability to actively supervise and engage children of varying ages and needs. Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and safety practices. Ability to remain patient, attentive, and flexible in a fast-paced environment. Ability to manage multiple needs and responsibilities while maintaining attention to detail and participant safety.
Requirements:
Education and experience Must be at least 15 years of age; AND High school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in high school. Previous volunteer or work experience caring for infants, toddlers, or children preferred; OR Any combination of education, training, volunteer experience, or work experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred. Certifications May require possession of or ability to obtain a valid First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
