Activities Assistant/Recreation Assistant

As an Activities Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating memorable moments and fostering a vibrant community where residents can thrive. The Activities/Recreation Assistant supports the planning, organization, and implementation of engaging recreational, social, educational, and therapeutic activities that enhance the quality of life for residents. This role helps promote resident independence, dignity, emotional well-being, and social interaction while creating a positive and enriching environment. Key Responsibilities Assist in planning, coordinating, and conducting daily activities and special events for residents. Encourage resident participation in group and individual activities based on their interests, abilities, and needs. Support recreational, cultural, educational, spiritual, and wellness programs designed to promote resident engagement and satisfaction. Transport or escort residents to and from activities while ensuring their safety and comfort. Build positive relationships with residents, families, and team members through compassionate and respectful interactions. Assist with decorating and preparing activity spaces for programs, celebrations, and seasonal events. Maintain activity supplies, equipment, and inventory, ensuring materials are organized and readily available. Observe residents during activities and report changes in behavior, mood, or participation levels to appropriate staff. Document attendance and activity participation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements. Support community outings and special events as assigned. Adhere to all safety, infection control, confidentiality, and resident rights policies and procedures. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with older adults, particularly in a long-term care, rehabilitation, assisted living, or senior services setting preferred. Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic approach to working with residents. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Basic computer skills and experience with documentation preferred. Ability to lift, push, pull, and transport activity materials and assist residents as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to engage residents with varying physical and cognitive abilities, including those with dementia or memory impairment. Strong creativity and ability to develop meaningful resident-centered activities. Excellent customer service and relationship-building skills. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for special events and programs.
