Full Job Description Summer Camp Director & School Programs Coordinator Background:

Massaro Community Farm (MCF) is a nonprofit certified organic farm in Woodbridge, CT. Our mission is to Keep Farming, Feed People, and Build Community. We fulfill this mission by offering the sale of produce to seasonal subscribers, to restaurants, and at farmers' markets. MCF offers farm-based education for youth and adults, and holds community-building events each year. We are committed to donating at least 10% of our harvest each year to health, human service and hunger relief agencies in the Greater New Haven and Naugatuck Valley regions.

Position:

MCF seeks someone professional, knowledgeable, and fun to be our Summer Camp Director & School Programs Coordinator. MCF offers a range of on-farm educational programs for all ages, including field trips, after-school, vacation day, and specialty programs during the school year, and a full-day summer camp program for children entering grades 1-8. The Summer Camp Director & School Programs Coordinator will administer and coordinate all aspects of our school programs and summer camp, provide supervision and leadership for farm-based educators and camp counselors, lead programs as needed, and develop new programs. This position ensures the smooth execution of our summer camp and school programs by providing leadership, creativity, and communication. The position reports directly to the Executive Director and partners with all MCF staff.

Work Commitment:

This position has seasonal fluctuations. It is full-time during the summer (June-August), part-time during the school year (September-May), and has potential for growth. Our summer camp runs from 8 AM - 4 PM, and most school year programs occur on weekdays between 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM. There may also be some evening and weekend programs or outreach opportunities. Exact days and hours are dependent on the programming. Estimated 10-25 hours per week from November-March, with hours increasing in April and May as additional farm programs begin (field trips, after school). June through mid-August programming is focused on summer camp. School-related programs return for September through mid-November. Winter months can focus on planning and outreach, and any potential winter programming.

Primary Responsibilities:

Oversee the planning and implementation of school programs and summer camp, including curriculum and activities, that satisfy the mission and meet strategic planning objectives of the farm. Handle all summer camp-related state and local registrations and paperwork. Recruit schools for programs and campers for summer camp, communicate with teachers and parents. Hire camp staff and conduct background checks. Prepare and lead staff training for summer camp. Directly supervise 4-8 Summer Camp Counselors and Counselors in Training Ensure that counselors have planned and prepared for their daily activities. Fill in for counselors as needed and lead camp activities as needed Partner with the Executive Director & Farm Manager to coordinate planning and maintenance of the Learning Garden area, including garden beds, perennials, compost, educational chicken flock, and other livestock. Maintain educational areas, including Learning Garden and Nature Trail, so they are safe and welcoming spaces. Communicate with the Executive Director about any issues as needed. Communicate with Farm Staff to ensure that spaces in the Barn and other communal areas of the farm are being shared well. Prepare program reports that can be shared with the board and referenced for grant applications and funding requests as needed. .

Required Skills/Qualifications:

College degree or equivalent. A minimum of 2-3 years teaching experience, either in a school, environmental education program or summer camp. Previous experience developing, planning, or leading activities, games, or educational curriculum for children. Ability to tailor programs to meet various grade level curriculum standards. Interest and ability to work with adults and children from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Must be personable, outgoing, and approachable, with the ability to work both independently and with a team. Interest in nature, farming, forestry, agroecology, or gardening. Comfortable working around farm animals (chickens, goats, rabbits). Comfortable working outside in a variety of weather conditions. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Positive and clear communication skills. Creative problem solving skills and flexibility. Organized and proactive. Ability to pass a background check.

Preferred Qualifications :

Previous leadership experience at a summer camp or comparable setting Teaching certification Current First Aid/CPR certification (training can be provided) Current certification to administer topical and oral medication (training can be provided)

Compensation:

This is an hourly position with a pay range of $23-27/hour, depending on experience. Paid Time Off (PTO): this position is eligible to accrue up to 40 hours of PTO per year.

Health Stipend:

this position is eligible for a quarterly health stipend.

Workers' Compensation:

the position is covered by workers' comp insurance and is eligible for unemployment insurance. Farm produce and eggs may be available.
