A Recreation or Activities Worker leads tours and vacation trips in outdoor or wilderness areas. Leads hiking, rafting, canoeing, climbing or diving activities for a group. Provides specialized knowledge about the history, terrain, ecology or wildlife for the tour. Manages transportation, equipment and provisions and assists with cooking.
Assist the Ministry Director in coordinating, designing, and implementing overnight Summer Camp. Prepare, manage, and facilitate large group events and worship sessions throughout Summer Camp. Supervise the translation of curriculum into every aspect of the camper experience. Oversee and coordinate Support Staff in the preparation and daily operations of Summer Camp. Develop schedules, age-appropriate activities, service projects, workshops, and skills for campers of all ages and abilities. Communicate by phone and email with churches, parents, etc. regarding camp questions. Recruit and retain Summer Leadership Team members throughout the year. Manage, design, and host Summer Leadership Team Preview Weekend(s). Manage, design, and host Support Staff Retreat and Summer Camp Prep Weekend(s). Establish and run Camp Nights at FLUMC children & youth ministries to promote Summer Camp. Assist the Retreats Coordinator by supervising and scheduling Summer Staff to provide worship and/or camper supervision for Year-Round Retreats. Assist the Recreation Coordinator as a backup facilitator for recreation shifts throughout the year. Assist the Ministry Director in updating offerings to meet ACA standards and best practices. Work with the Hospitality Manager to provide opportunities for ministry with large rental camps. Work with the Camp Ministry Team, Ministry Director, and Senior Director to create and implement vision of ministry opportunities. Be a ministry resource to all guest groups of the Warren Willis UM Camp and Conference Center. Serve as an On-Call Host at the Camp and Conference Center. Be willing to be utilized in other areas, as needed, depending on camp season.
Minimum Requirements:
Three years experience working with children, youth, and young adults. Ability to pass a Level 2 background check. Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record's check. Valid Driver's License. Moderate Computer Skills (Ability to learn CampBrain System). Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Formal training in facilitating one or more of the following activities: low challenge course, high challenge course, swimming pool, waterfront canoeing/sailing, archery. An appreciation of the nature and mission of the Church is essential.
Preferences:
Two years of supervisory experience. Preference for a member of a United Methodist Church.
Working Environment:
Frequent contact with students, parents, volunteers and group participants at the Warren Willis Camp and Conference Center. Spends less than 30% of time sitting; remainder of time includes moving on property and actively facilitating ministry opportunities for participants. Position requires moving with participants and engaging in physically demanding activities. Must be able to lift 20lbs, frequently has to move water coolers, game equipment or supplies to and from spaces.
