Job Description

Overview The Sports Center Professional is a full-time, seasonal position that combines Sports Center operations and member services with personal training and fitness services. The Sports Center Professional is responsible for the daily operation of the Sports Center reception desk during designated desk hours. This position greets and assists members and guests in an efficient, courteous, and professional manner while maintaining high standards of service and hospitality. In addition to Sports Center responsibilities, this position provides quality personal training, group fitness classes, and other specialized fitness activities within the employee's current certifications and qualifications. The Sports Center Professional will work to assist and implement an ongoing program of activities designed to meet the interests and physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of the membership. This position will work closely with the Sports Center Manager and the Sports & Wellness team to promote participation in Club programs, provide exceptional member service, and support the overall operation of the Sports & Wellness facilities.
HOURS/DAYS
This is a full-time, seasonal position consisting of five scheduled workdays per week. Saturday & Sunday 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
  • Mandatory Sports Center reception desk hours from 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
  • May provide personal training or fitness programming for up to two additional hours each day, provided those sessions occur after 12:00 p.m.
  • Training and fitness programming must be scheduled around required desk responsibilities. Monday 7:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
  • 7:00-8:00 a.m.: Mandatory Sports Center desk coverage and facility set-up.
  • 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.: Personal training, group fitness classes, and other fitness programming within the employee's certifications and qualifications.
  • Assist with the Monday shut-down and closing of the Sports & Wellness facility.
  • Additional operational responsibilities may be assigned as needed. Two Additional Workdays The employee may select two additional regular workdays in coordination with the Sports Center Manager and based on the needs of the Club. 7:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
  • Primary responsibilities during these days will include personal training, group fitness classes, and other qualified fitness programming.
  • The employee is expected to remain available throughout scheduled hours for member appointments, classes, and other Sports & Wellness responsibilities.
The schedule may be adjusted based on seasonal Club operations, member demand, special events, programming needs, and the operational needs of the Sports & Wellness Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIESSports Center Operations & Member Services During designated Sports Center desk hours, the Sports Center Professional will perform the following duties:
  • Answer telephone and email in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Greet and assist members and guests in an efficient, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Give tours to new and prospective members.
  • Assist members with questions regarding Sports & Wellness programs, facilities, schedules, and activities.
  • Assist with the coordination of sports and wellness events.
  • Book tennis, bocce, and pickleball court reservations in accordance with Club policy.
  • Maintain the tennis, pickleball, bocce, and fitness rosters.
  • Enforce guest and court reservation policies and collect guest charges in accordance with Club policy.
  • Post fliers for upcoming events and informational purposes.
  • Keep the communication board current.
  • Assist with team responsibilities.
  • Update usage reports for Tennis, Fitness, Pickleball, Bocce, and related Sports & Wellness activities.
  • Post member charges using Club software.
  • Perform assigned opening and closing procedures.
  • Prepare Round Robin court assignments.
  • Prepare complimentary refreshments.
  • Prepare sign-in sheets for tennis, fitness, bocce, pickleball, and other activities.
  • Encourage member participation in Sports & Wellness activities and document outcomes.
  • Coordinate the Sports Activities program with other services at the Club.
  • Assist with website, communication, and social media updates as assigned.
  • Promote use of the Sports & Wellness facilities to members, members' families, and their guests.
  • Perform general office and administrative tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned. Fitness & Wellness Responsibilities Within the scope of the employee's current professional certifications and qualifications, the Sports Center Professional will:
  • Provide quality personal training to Club members.
  • Design and deliver safe, effective, and engaging personal training sessions based on individual member goals, abilities, and fitness levels.
  • Provide group fitness classes within the employee's areas of certification and qualification.
  • Provide other specialized fitness activities that fall within the employee's current certifications and qualifications.
  • Provide appropriate exercise instruction, modifications, and progressions based on individual member needs.
  • Create a positive, motivating, professional, and welcoming environment for members participating in fitness programming.
  • Maintain current certifications and required continuing education relevant to services being provided.
  • Follow all Club policies, safety procedures, and professional standards.
  • Promote participation in appropriate fitness programs and services.
  • Work collaboratively with other fitness instructors, trainers, and Sports & Wellness team members.
  • Communicate appropriately with the Sports Center Manager regarding member needs, programming, scheduling, and facility concerns.
  • Maintain appropriate records and documentation related to personal training and fitness programming as required by the Club.
  • Perform only those training, instructional, or specialized fitness activities for which the employee is appropriately certified or qualified.
FACILITY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with the daily set-up and preparation of the Sports & Wellness facilities.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, welcoming, and professional environment in areas of responsibility.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures as assigned.
  • Assist with the Monday shut-down of the Sports & Wellness facility.
  • Ensure fitness areas and equipment are appropriately prepared for member use.
  • Report equipment, facility, maintenance, or safety concerns to the Sports Center Manager.
  • Assist with facility preparation for special events, programs, and activities.
  • Other facility-related duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION
Base Hourly Rate:
$19.00 per hour for scheduled work hours.
Personal Training:
The employee will receive 60% of the established personal training rate for personal training sessions performed.
Group Fitness Classes:
The employee will receive $50 per group fitness class taught. Personal training and group fitness compensation are in addition to the applicable hourly compensation and will be processed in accordance with Club payroll and compensation policies.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Current professional certification(s) appropriate to personal training and/or group fitness instruction.
  • CPR/AED certification as required by Club policy.
  • Computer proficient.
  • Knowledge of Windows-based programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn and utilize Club scheduling, reservation, communication, and point-of-sale software.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with members and guests.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor appropriate for an upscale private club.
  • A team player with a strong service orientation.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities in a busy member-service environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
