PARKS & RECREATION OPERATIONS COORDINATOR
City of West Palm Beach - 3.7 West Palm Beach, FL Job Details Full-time $71,556 a year 4 hours ago Qualifications Class E Full Job Description Under limited direction, supervises subordinate supervisors, team leaders or workers in the maintenance operations of the City's park divisions such as park facilities, right of ways, urban forestry, cemeteries, waterfront, athletic fields and irrigation systems.; and performs other related duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Which are not in any hierarchical order) 1. Prepares, assigns, reviews and inspects daily work orders. 2. Oversee daily park operations including grounds, facilities, athletic fields, parks, cemeteries, right-of ways and waterfront to ensure cleanliness, safety, and functionality. 3. Assigns and supervises the maintenance of landscape areas and landscape materials within the parks, park facilities, right of ways, urban forestry, cemeteries, waterfront, athletic fields and irrigation systems. Develops maintenance and preventative maintenance schedules i.e. weeding, spraying, pruning, and fertilization, mowing, pruning et, schedules; surveys areas periodically to detect diseased and dead plant material and schedules replacement. 4. Plans and supports community and special events ensure that parks are properly prepared, maintained, and restored afterward. 5. Make supervisory inspections of all park areas and facilities to ensure facilities, equipment and parks meet department, safety and maintenance standards. 6. Performs field reviews prior to and during all construction or restoration projects to ensure compliance with specifications, scope of work and meets department standards. 7. Coordinates repairs and projects working with internal and external contractors for maintaining parks and amenities. Responsible for overseeing, administering, and managing contracts to ensure compliance with terms, timely execution and satisfy department's expectations. 8. Plans, schedules, selects and requests requisitions necessary to maintain equipment, park property and inventory of supplies. 9. Acts as liaison between City representatives and project staff. 10. Schedules employees, assigns work, and monitors their progress. Guides and develops employees in the accomplishment of their duties. Interviews, trains, motivates, assigns, and evaluates work. Recommend disciplinary action according to established City procedures. Conducts performance appraisals. 11. Investigate and coordinate a response to citizen concerns. 12. Manages budgets for areas of responsibility which includes ordering supplies, hiring contractors and purchasing park amenities. 13. Performs other related duties as assigned. Salary $71,556 annually - Pay grade 65 Excellent benefits! Qualifications Associates degree with a major in Business Administration, Parks/Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Forestry, or related field (education will be verified using the "Education Requirements" listed below), and five (5) years of experience in landscape maintenance projects is required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Three (3) years of lead work or supervisory experience is required. Bachelor's degree and Certification (ISA) as an Arborist/Municipal Specialist, highly desirable. A current and valid Florida driver's license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver's license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days from date of employment. A current and valid Florida CDL driver's license Class B may be required depending on area of assignment. Special Driving Requirements Have not lost any driving privileges by reason of revocation, suspension or denial of license, or have been convicted and/or had an adjudication withheld of three or more moving violations. Have not had one DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in any preceding twenty-four (24) month period. License suspension of two weeks or less or suspensions based only on non-moving violations that have been cleared will not automatically result in revocation of driving privileges. Have not had more than one DUI (conviction or adjudication withheld) in Florida or any other state within the past ten (10) years.
Education Requirements :
To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by: a) a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or b) an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or c) an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); or d) an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above. International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements. Additional Details The selection process for this position may consist of any, all or a combination of the following tests: evaluation of training and experience, written examination, structured oral interview or other assessment method.
State of Emergency:
When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration by the Mayor that a state of emergency exists, all employees will be deemed critical by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work. Employees deemed critical by the City but not needed for the initial preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail may be directed not to report to work, and given paid administrative leave or they may be reassigned to another location that best meet the needs of the City.
