Certification Passenger Endorsement School Bus Endorsement Driver's License First Aid Certification Air Brake Endorsement School bus driving Full Job Description Under close supervision, coordinates and participates in the development and presentation of quality recreation program activities at a recreation site, park, facility or specialty area including after school recreation, and athletic activities for children, adults, seniors, and other special citizens of the City of West Palm Beach; assists with permitting and implementation of events and activities by others at community centers and park facilities; and performs other related duties as assigned.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Which are not in any hierarchical order ) 1. Plans, organizes, coordinates, and participates in the development and implementation of recreation programs for patron groups or specialty areas. 2. Conducts research to stay current on recreation program development and management. 3. Obtains sponsorships for various recreation needs. 4. Sells and receives field permits. 5. Prepares written documents, statistical reports, work orders, time sheets, schedules, press releases, brochures, calendars, program rosters, etc. 6. Communicates and works with individuals, community groups, and committees to stimulate interest and develop recreation program support, including fundraising. 7. Performs light office duty including answering phones, making appointments, copies, completing forms and providing customer service. 8. Drive bus to transport children commuting to and from the Center. 9. Develop and prepare weekly lesson and recreational plans and curriculum for programs. 10. May consult with school officials, police, probation officers, public assistance workers, civil organizations and other public and private agencies in seeking solutions to problems affecting youths. 11. Performs program registration duties including accepting funds and providing receipts. 12. Performs other related duties as assigned. Salary $23.75 hourly - Pay Grade 50 Excellent Benefits! Qualifications Associates degree with a major in Recreation, Leisure Management, or related field (education will be verified using the "Education Requirements" listed below) and one (1) year of related experience is required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. First Aid and CPR certification required or the ability to obtain with ninety (90) days from the date of employment. Completion of Childcare Training Courses to meet current requirements from the Early Learning Coalition required or ability to obtain within ninety (90) days from date of employment, and Florida Department of Children and Families registration is required within 30 days of employment and ability to complete within twelve (12) months from date of employment. Other certifications may be required upon hire for childcare licensing purposes. Childcare Director's credential is preferred or may be required within one (1) year of employment if assigned to an after-school program site. You will be required to pass a Level II Background from the State of Florida. A current and valid Florida Class B Commercial driver's license with air brakes, and the "P" and "S" endorsement is required or ability to obtain within one (1) year from date of employment. For application purposes, a valid driver's license from any state or a State of Florida Class E driver's license may be utilized.
Education Requirements :
To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by: a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above. International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements.
Special Driving Requirements:
Have not lost any driving privileges by reason of revocation, suspension or denial of license, or have been convicted and/or had an adjudication withheld of three or more moving violations. Have not had one DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in any preceding twenty-four (24) month period. License suspension of two weeks or less or suspensions based only on non-moving violations that have been cleared will not automatically result in revocation of driving privileges. Have not had more than one DUI (conviction or adjudication withheld) in Florida or any other state within the past ten (10) years. State of Emergency:
When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration by the Mayor that a state of emergency exists, all employees will be deemed critical by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work. Employees deemed critical by the City but not needed for the initial preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail may be directed not to report to work, and given paid administrative leave or they may be reassigned to another location that best meet the needs of the City.
