This is an incredible opportunity to use your education and talents to: Supervise a team of staff responsible for developing and facilitating Special Olympics programs and services in Palm Beach County. Manage the coordination and implementation of ongoing sports training and competitions for individuals with intellectual disabilities. YOUR ROLE AND IMPACT
As the Recreation Specialist III, you will: Perform administrative/supervisory work, developing and managing varied recreational programs for County-wide participation and partnerships with outside organizations, sports providers, schools, or accrediting agencies. Plan, manage, develop, and promote specialized programs that are instructed, conducted, or programmed by staff, contractual staff, and volunteers in compliance with Department, County, and industry standards. Conduct extensive research, relationship building oversight, and fundraising. Hire, supervise, and direct staff, including writing performance evaluations, issuing counseling forms/disciplinary actions, and handling employee complaints/grievances. Work is performed with considerable independence and is reviewed by a Recreation Programs Coordinator through conferences, reports, and evaluation of results obtained. QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess one of the following: A Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Health and Physical Education, or related field; minimum of three (3) years of experience organizing and supervising recreational activities, OR An unrelated Bachelor's Degree; minimum of four (4) years of experience organizing and supervising recreational activities, OR An Associate's Degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Health and Physical Education, or related field; minimum of five (5) years of experience organizing and supervising recreational activities, OR An unrelated Associate's Degree; minimum of six (6) years of experience organizing and supervising recreational activities, OR Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of seven (7) years of experience organizing and supervising recreational activities.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
(S) The selected candidate for this position MUST obtain the following within six (6) months of hire: A FL Class C Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsements AND A First Aid/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include: Experience marketing programs, developing/cultivating inter-agency and community relationships, Experience with fundraising, Six (6) months of experience planning, organizing, and supervising recreation activities and special events for people with intellectual disabilities (must specify on application) , Six (6) months of experience coordinating and implementing Special Olympics competitions and sports training, Experience recruiting, training, and supervising coaches and volunteers, and Valid Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification or a Therapeutic Recreation Undergraduate Certificate (copies of Certifications must be uploaded to online application by 5:00 P.M. on the closing date) .
