JOB SUMMARY
The Academy Assistant will create and assist in logistics for daily, weekly, and monthly events to socially engage residents. The Academy Assistant will work with resident participants, coworkers, volunteers, and resident family members to create and deliver fun, safe, engaging events. The Academy Assistant should be detail-oriented and possess excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Assist in scheduling, organizing, and facilitating activities to meet the residents' creative, social, physical, spiritual, and emotional needs. Adapts activities to suit resident and incorporate them into overall resident care routines and objectives.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Assist the Academy Director in leading individual and group activities as assigned. 2. Assist the Academy Director in completing, planning, and organizing activities for independent living, assisted living, and memory care residents. 3. Assist in completing Activity assessments and the appropriate documentation of the Academy program to meet state and federal guidelines. 4. Assist in maintaining cleanliness of the Activity areas. 5. Prepare for and independently lead a variety of social activities. 6. Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific activities. 7. Function independently in the absence of the Activities Director. 8. Assist with other duties as assigned by Activities Director. 9. Reporting medical concerns or observations.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to plan, organize and conduct Academy program.
  • Ability to generate enthusiasm for the Academy Program.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with personnel, residents, families, and visitors.
  • Ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be flexible to work varied schedule based on special events, emergencies, programs, and trips.
  • More education or experience with nursing, recreational activities, event planning, or related may be preferred.
  • Job training and first aid and CPR training may be necessary.
  • Adaptability and strong organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent resource management, computer, record keeping, interpersonal, decision making, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Patience and compassion when dealing with others.
  • Flexibility to work when needed, especially evenings, weekends, or holidays.
  • Willingness to adhere to and enforce all safety policies and procedures.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to stand, bend, climb, use hands for grasping, fine manipulating, medium dexterity, pushing and pulling and lifting 50 pounds. Involves sitting, walking, and standing for moderate periods of time.
