Job Description
Job Summary The Recreation Program Coordinator supports the Rockdale County Parks and Recreation Department through the coordination, implementation, administration, and evaluation of assigned recreation programs, activities, community outreach initiatives, and special events. This position is responsible for assisting with the planning and delivery of recreation services that meet community needs while supporting departmental goals and objectives. Work involves coordinating program operations, supervising assigned part-time staff, instructors, seasonal employees, and volunteers, maintaining program records, assisting with budget administration, and ensuring quality customer service. The Recreation Program Coordinator works under the direction of the Recreation Program Supervisor and serves as a key resource in the successful delivery of recreation programs and community engagement initiatives. Work is reviewed through program outcomes, participant feedback, attendance records, financial performance, observation, and written and oral reports. Essential Functions These functions are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position. Coordinates, implements, and evaluates assigned recreation programs, activities, classes, camps, workshops, community outreach initiatives, and special events under the direction of the Recreation Program Supervisor. Assists in assessing community needs, recreation trends, and participant interests to support the development of new programs and services. Coordinates day-to-day operations of assigned programs, including scheduling, facility reservations, registration management, equipment needs, and participant communications. Recruits, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates assigned part-time staff, instructors, contractors, seasonal employees, and volunteers. Assists in the development and implementation of program goals, objectives, performance measures, and annual work plans. Assists with the planning, coordination, and execution of department special events, festivals, community celebrations, and outreach initiatives. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with schools, community organizations, nonprofit agencies, businesses, and other stakeholders to expand recreation opportunities. Serves as a liaison between participants, instructors, vendors, community partners, and County departments regarding assigned programs and activities. Assists the Recreation Program Supervisor with budget administration, revenue collection, expenditure tracking, cost recovery efforts, and financial reporting for assigned programs. Monitors program participation, attendance, revenues, expenditures, and customer feedback and prepares reports and recommendations for program improvements. Assists with the procurement of supplies, equipment, and materials necessary for program operations. Ensures assigned programs and activities operate in compliance with County policies, safety standards, risk management practices, and applicable laws and regulations. Explains and interprets program policies, procedures, schedules, fees, and regulations to participants and the public. Assists in the development and distribution of marketing and promotional materials, including flyers, brochures, social media content, and community outreach communications. Maintains accurate records related to registrations, attendance, inventories, revenues, expenditures, and program evaluations. Conducts routine inspections of assigned facilities, equipment, and program areas to ensure safe and effective operations. Assists with identifying sponsorship opportunities, grant opportunities, and community partnerships to enhance recreation programming. Responds to participant concerns and resolves issues in a professional and customer-focused manner. Assists with customer service functions, program registration, facility reservations, and other departmental operations as needed. Drives county vehicles and transports participants, staff, equipment, and supplies in support of recreation programs and activities. Performs related duties as assigned.
