Job Description

Recreation Program Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY
Under general direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, the Recreation Program Coordinator performs a variety of duties associated with creating and providing support to the Parks and Recreation Department. Duties include but are not limited to: oversight of parks facility permit and rentals, assisting with coordination of special events, assisting with commercial pop-up events and social media coverage of partner groups. Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Program Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages facility rental calendars and permits, providing customer service via email and phone for the department, posting physical schedules at each facility, and notifying maintenance of reservations. Will be on call for rentals as needed. Will assist in social media coverage of all partners within the city Will attend commercial pop-up events Prioritizes multiple job tasks, projects and programs and completes assignments within specific time frames to meet strict deadlines. This job will require some weekend work. Assist with special events Maintains an effective working relationship with all City personnel, affiliated partners, state agencies, teams, league officials and instructors. Works collaboratively with city staff members and other departments to promote, market and publicize activities, events and programs. Ensures adherence to all State and Federal Regulations. Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of the job.
ASSOCIATED DUTIES
May attend conferences, seminars and workshops related to the Recreation Manager's duties and responsibilities. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidaysas needed for meetings, programming and special events.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Parks and Recreation, Administration, or a closely related field. Five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience and/or training. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification preferred. Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of principles, rules, and procedures of organized competitive sports, athletic and recreational programs, objectives of public recreation and athletic programs. Knowledge of principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation. Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Knowledge of basic mathematical principles. Knowledge of modern office practices, equipment, methods and procedures. Knowledge of personal computers and computer software applications. Ability to plan and organize daily work schedules of subordinate staff members. Ability to respond to requests and inquiries from the general public. Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to supervise, direct, and coordinate the work of subordinate staff. Ability to select, train, and evaluate staff. Ability to participate in the development and administration of program goals, objectives, and procedures. Ability to prepare and administer program budgets. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and programs within specific time frames. Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines. Ability to plan, promote, organize, and coordinate athletic programs and events. Ability to oversee and participate in the provision of a high level of customer service to internal and external customers. Ability to read, understand, interpret, apply, explain and enforce policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Ability to respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests in a timely and tactful manner. Ability to exercise sound judgment in the application of program and game rules and procedures. Ability to represent the City in a professional manner and deal effectively with the public to gain their cooperation in resolving problems and concerns. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Ability to demonstrate an awareness and appreciation of the cultural diversity of the community. Ability to understand and carry out complex verbal and written instructions. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing. Ability to establish rapport, understanding and confidence with participants and the public. Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with officials, employees, state and federal authorities, affiliated partners, teams, league officials, instructors, and members of the public.
