Job Description

The Wellness Assistant promotes active older adult lifestyles and the six dimensions of wellness. The Wellness Assistant assists with the development, implementation, and operation of the Wellness Program. Wellness Assistant will work closely with residents and staff in group and personal fitness and aquatic settings to ensure safe attainment of wellness goals. Responsibilities Work under the direction and cooperation of Therapy Director to provide residents and staff with wellness programming that meets their emotional, intellectual, physical, social, spiritual, and vocational needs. Provide a high level of customer service and develop caring relationships with residents which promote participation and attendance in weekly wellness programs. Instruct a variety of land and aquatic exercise classes as appropriate for older adults. Instruct residents and staff on proper exercise technique and equipment usage. Must work with disabled and memory-impaired residents. Model exemplary appearance and attitude of health and fitness professional. Enforce safety policies and monitor use of gym, fitness studio, aquatic center, and locker rooms. Perform light housekeeping, cleaning, and sanitizing of fitness equipment. Immediately report injury, maintenance requests, and other concerns to supervisor. Respond with first aid in an emergency. Perform clerical tasks; often using computer and Microsoft Office software. Attend staff meetings and continuing education as required. Adhere to department and organizational policy and procedure. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements The highly qualified candidate will have post-secondary education or degree and minimum one year experience in the fitness, kinesiology, gerontology, physical therapy, or other health related field. Certification and experience in personal training or group exercise instruction strongly preferred. Experience working with older adults preferred. Must possess strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
