Introduction:

ColuColummbus Parks and Recreation works to enhance our community's quality of life by maintaining our parks, trails, and green spaces. Currently, Columbus Parks and Recreation is growing and managing over 1,000 acres of park land, 24 parks, and 27 miles of trails to help attract tourism and new businesses, provide welcome spaces for community members to gather, and create safe places for our community members to play and be healthy. Summary of Functional Responsibilities:

Developing, documenting, evaluating, improving, and executing the processes and programs involved with NexusPark Fieldhouse, sports programs, tournaments, and special events for the fieldhouse. Direct day-to-day office duties. Maintain a good working relationship with multiple sports and event associations, volunteers, community partners and businesses. Provide the entire community with the highest quality sports and event-based services, in a professional and friendly manner. Specific Duties of the

Position:

Oversee the management, implementation, and continuous improvement of the programming for all fieldhouse sports tournaments, leagues, programs, and special events. Plan and prepare yearly business plans (participation, revenue, expense) and goals with measurable results for NexusPark Fieldhouse sports programs, tournaments, and special events. Plan, prepare, and manage annual budget(s) for the NexusPark Fieldhouse sports programs and events in cooperation with Associate Director of Sports. Consult with the Associate Director of Business Services during the planning process. Work directly with NexusPark Maintenance Supervisor and the Associate Director of Sports to plan and prepare yearly Capital Budgets for the NexusPark Fieldhouse which includes equipment and projects. Monitor industry trends by participating in professional organizations, attending conferences and workshops, and subscribing to relevant research articles. Explore creative options to stay current on trends and report those ideas to the Associate Director of Sports. Participate in various board meetings and maintain a good working relationship with all sports associations, user groups, partners, and volunteers. Implement, evaluate, and improve operations plans for NexusPark Fieldhouse for sports programs, tournaments and events. Meet regularly with Associate Director of Sports and the NexusPark Maintenance Supervisor on daily operations and schedules. Manage the fieldhouse staff including but not limited to hiring, termination, training, evaluations, terminations/performance improvements, payroll, and scheduling. Evaluate and maintain inventory of supplies and other items needed to carry out management plans for the NexusPark Fieldhouse. Implement, evaluate, improve, and bring to a close (when necessary) fieldhouse programs to ensure we are providing the highest quality parks and recreation services. Work in cooperation with the Marketing Manager and other Marketing contracted services to maintain content of multiple social media outlets, website pages, and to advertise various sports programs, tournaments and events. Works in cooperation with Resource Development Manager and the sponsorship committee, to procure sponsorships for various sports programs, tournaments, and events. Must be able to perform all duties of the positions of direct reports and all program staff Be proficient with technology, including the ability to operate computers, software applications, and the department's work order management system Establish, foster, and maintain working relationships with multiple tournament and special event organizations. Recruit organizations for tournaments and special events, plan annual calendars, and contracts with the various organizations for the year. Prepares and tracks invoices and payments for user groups, tournaments, camps, and rental fees for the NexusPark Fieldhouse. Promote safety and quality in sports programs, tournaments, and events in consultation with Risk Management/City. Represent the Parks & Recreation Department in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience :

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Park and Recreation Administration, Recreation, Sports Administration, or a related field preferred. Five (5) or more years' of increasingly responsible experience in the areas of: management, sports venue operations, program development and management, and budgeting is preferred.

Proficient computer skills:

standard Microsoft suite and the ability to learn any related registration, timekeeping, scheduling, and marketing software. Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact with community, state and national organizations. First Aid/CPR/AED certified or the ability to do so upon hire. Valid Indiana driver's license, maintained at all times, and good driving sufficient to be a driver covered by City Insurance.

Judgment:

Work is of a high degree of difficulty and complexity and is performed under general direction of the Associate Director of Sports, with considerable latitude granted to exercise of independent judgment.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Supervises full-time NexusPark Fieldhouse Sports and Event Coordinator Effectively motivates, oversee and supervises part-time and seasonal staff and overall operation of concessions, batting cages, and multiple sports program supervisors.

Relationships Responsibility:

Must be able to work with customers (internal & external) and fellow employees to keep service at the highest standard possible. Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with department employees, user groups, volunteers, and customers.

Working Conditions:

More than ordinary exposure with considerations of weather and pressures resulting in stress or other job-related inconveniences. Schedule is fluid with the expectation that there will be evening, weekend and holiday work depending on scheduled programs to ensure a high-quality set of programs are being provided and to check in and effectively supervise part-time weekend/evening staff. Position allows for weekly flex hours when the workload permits. This position is on-call (unless arranged otherwise to ensure coverage) and will be provided a city phone to ensure that they can be reached. Must reside in Bartholomew County or adjoining county within six (6) months of employment. This position is Safety-Sensitive and is subject to the City's Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace Program which includes: pre-employment testing, random testing, post-accident testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return-to-duty testing, and follow-up testing, and annual BMV checks for all drivers.
