    westminstermd.gov/27/Government Job Description Assistant Director of Recreation & Parks City of Westminster, Maryland The City of Westminster is seeking two experienced and community-minded Assistant Director of Recreation & Parks to support the Director in leading the City's diverse recreation and parks programs, facilities, events, and services. The Recreation & Parks Department will have two Assistant Directors, who will work collaboratively with the Director and department staff to support the overall administration and operation of the department. Specific areas of responsibility will be assigned by the Director based on departmental needs, priorities, and the qualifications and experience of each Assistant Director. This structure allows the Assistant Directors to leverage their individual areas of expertise while also providing opportunities to develop new skills and expand their knowledge across the department. Working collaboratively, the Assistant Directors will support one another and the Director in advancing departmental goals and providing high-quality services to the community. What You'll Do Depending on assigned areas of responsibility, the Assistant Director may:

    • Assist with the management and oversight of City recreation facilities, parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, trails, the Westminster Family Center, municipal pool, and other recreational facilities.
    • Help plan, develop, implement, and evaluate recreation programs, activities, and major community events.
    • Support the planning and administration of capital improvement and departmental projects, including schedules, budgets, contractors, consultants, contracts, and project progress.
    • Assist with grant research, applications, compliance, documentation, and reporting for departmental programs and projects.
    • Assist with the supervision, hiring, training, evaluation, and performance management of full-time, part-time, temporary, and seasonal staff.
    • Assist with the preparation and monitoring of the department's operating budget.
    • Help ensure facilities and programs operate safely and in compliance with applicable regulations and requirements.
    • Develop and coordinate event materials, vendor services, sponsorships, volunteers, marketing, and community outreach.
    • Prepare promotional materials, website content, social media posts, and press releases to promote City programs and events.
    • Represent the City through community engagement, meetings, committees, and interactions with residents, organizations, businesses, and other stakeholders.
    • Stay informed about current recreation trends and identify opportunities to improve programs and services.
    • Keep the Director informed of significant issues and recommend appropriate courses of action.
    • Work collaboratively with the other Assistant Director to coordinate departmental operations, share information, and ensure continuity and consistency in the delivery of programs and services.
    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in Recreation or a related field.
    • Five
    • Seven years of progressively responsible related experience
    • Three
    • Five years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Valid driver's license.

    Successful candidates should have knowledge of recreation program planning and evaluation, staff supervision, grant administration, capital project management, budgeting, and community engagement. Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced public service environment.     Exempt Hiring Pay Range:

    $67,559

    • $80,000 annually Starting salary within the hiring range will be determined based on the candidate's demonstrated qualifications, relevant experience, and overall alignment with the requirements of the position.
