Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE
The Recreational Aide assists in the implementation and operation of athletic programs and special events run by the Parks & Recreational Services Department. The Aide works under the supervision of the Athletic Coordinator while maintaining responsibility for the athletic programs operated by the Parks & Recreational Services Department. The Aide also assists in other duties as assigned related to departmental functions.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Must have and maintain a valid Mississippi Driver's License. Must be willing to complete additional day care licensing requirements if needed. Must be willing to work odd hours (late nights and weekends & holidays). Must be a self-starter and a highly motivated individual. Must be able to get along with other employees as well as participants within the Parks & Recreational Services Department Programs. Must be able to maintain effective relationships with outside professionals relating to the programs and services offered by the Parks & Recreational Services Department.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Assists in the implementation and operation of programs and special events run by the Parks & Recreational Services Department. Assists with the maintenance of an accurate inventory of all equipment and supplies used for athletic purposes within the department. Assists in the development of schedules and league activities when needed. Supervises activities and serves as an official representative for the Parks & Recreational Services Department during department-sponsored events. Serves as department liaison when assigned to attend athletic organization meetings of groups actively participating in Facility Use Agreement with the City of Ocean Springs. Assists, fills in, and performs all other duties assigned by the Athletic Coordinator.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Walking, squatting, climbing, hearing, swimming, standing for periods longer than one hour, pushing (up to 100 lbs.), lifting (up to 100 lbs.), sitting, pulling (up to 100 lbs.), speech, and vision Must be able to lift and move program equipment properly as needs arise. Must be physically able to participate in high-energy activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to loud. Outdoor work in inclement weather is performed throughout the year.
