Overview About The Position - If you have carpentry or sheetmetal or shipfitting Skills this is for you! Fabricate, assemble, install and repair bulkheads, wood and metal articles, interior wood finishes, cabin accessories, wood and metal deck structures. Responsible for the proper mounting off furniture, racks and bins, partition bulkheads, decorative ceilings, and false decks, as well as other outfitting items.

Core Job Responsibilities Structural Outfitting:

Build, install, and repair bulkheads, interior wood finishes, cabin accessories, and deck structures using wood and metal.

Fixture Mounting:

Secure and mount ship furniture, racks, bins, lockers, decorative ceilings, false decks, and galley equipment.

Material Handling:

Work with thin gauges of steel, aluminum, and stainless steel, utilizing bolted, riveted, or welded joints.

Blueprint Reading:

Interpret marine blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to guide daily fabrication.

Tool Operation:

Operate shop machinery and hand tools, including shears, brake presses, rollers, drills, saws, and grinders. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Qualifications & Requirements Experience Levels:

Entry-Level/Apprentice:

Basic math and measuring skills; no prior shipyard experience required (apprentices complete a 6,000-hour earned-while-you-learn program).

Skilled Joiner:

Minimum of 1 to 3 years of joiner or related craft experience (carpentry, shipfitting, or sheet metal) and the ability to pass a Tacker Certification test. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Working Conditions:

Requires working in complex shipyard environments, tight corners, and varying heights Requirements Minimum of 3 years experience as a Joiner or related craft experience in shipfitting, carpentry or sheetmetal Able to pass the Tacker Certification test.
